Well, I ran my favorite event, The Texas Mile (standing Mile), last weekend for the first time since parting out my beloved blue 2009 Challenger...Old School. The Demon did well for what she is. Had some colorful top of the track moments as after the half mile the front end would swing left to right increasingly as speeds increased. Drag racing suspension. Thought the “Sport” setting would address the excitement but not so much. Finally...found the fix in the “Street” suspension mode...don’t ask. Couldn’t explain it if I tried but I was grateful as I could finally enjoy the full passes. Following are a few pics. vroom vroom... HS6 points

Actually, I should have said Pikesville is speaking to me more than others, not including the Old Forester 1920. I already have drunk Forester 1920 plenty in past and still have a half bottle left, but only picked up another bottle in the picture to make sure I don't run out It's truly wonderful bourbon, and its 115 proof nutty, creme brulee palate is DeLicious,, and everyone should have a bottle!3 points

I switched my mountain bike from clips to standard petals after my last cash. I was doing a climb and my when about half way through the down stroke on the foot towards the outside of the trail.. my chain snapped. Trail was about 3ft wide myself attached to the bike went tumbling down the slope only about 10ft before getting thankful stuck in a bush. Much happier and consistently less server when I crash now, but the mountain bike is a week day thing and it's the weekend so 300xc it is.3 points

I just ran pretty much the same on the 2nd amp, with more or less the same results. I'm going to play around with the bias a bit and will report back, though these things normally sound the best biased as high as you can get away with (within reason; I think Kevin had commented regarding the full-size that around 20mA was the sane max).1 point

I'm very curious as to the Forester 1920. Let me know what you think once you've cracked her open!1 point

Hmmm. Interesting, but so far, the Pikesville rye is speaking to me more than others..1 point

Without the heatsinks, I am seeing the following (IR gun): ~45 minutes (no music playing) Top: 41C Transistors (hottest): 102C Bias is a bit hot at ~345-360mV = 17-18mA (this is with 402R resistors and the LiteOn LTST-C170CKT LEDs (1.56V drop). Maybe I'll toss in some 422R for the bias and recheck; that had always measured low initially (12-13mA), but I'd never run it this long in that configuration.1 point

Yeah - the 104 series were excellent. I used to visit a rather anal hi-fi shop in the late '70's which had the motto above the door "Experto crede" which I had to look up - it was "Believe the expert" in latin. Tells you all you need to know about that shop. But one day I was in and River Song by Dave Grusin was playing through 104's. And I have to say my recollection was that it was excellent. It shows the effect that had, in that forty years later I can still remember what was playing. But KEF were at the leading edge. They pioneered impulse testing of speakers, and invested what must have been an eye-popping amount of money in the early 70's - an HP computer. This was a 19" rack full of stuff that they used to do FFT analysis of impulse tests, and do crossover optimisation based on the driver FFT responses. I was lucky enough that my wife Carole (an accountant) was given the audit of KEF - and given the opportunity of buying KEF loudspeakers at a massive discount. Because we were young and did not have much money we bought Caprice II. And enjoyed them for five or six years. Wish we'd been flush enough to buy the R105's!1 point

Ouch. Hope it all heals quickly and you get back on the bike as soon as.1 point

It turns out that of all the points of failure (Macintop, OWC 4 bay external enclosure, elgato thunderbolt dock) it was the ...USB cable I was using between the dock and the enclosure. I switched to a USB 3.0 cable, even though I'm running at 2.0 speeds. The device end of USB 3.0 is a much bigger and more robust connector. Knock on wood, I've had no random disconnects since switching to it. I'm still toying with the idea of a rack mount NAS at some point. The form factor works really for me, seeing as I have like 10 free rack spaces and zero free desk space.1 point

I swear, one more fuck up with my external drive array and I'm buying this damn thing: https://www.amazon.com/Synology-4bay-RackStation-RS816-Diskless/dp/B01K1JSKC4/ Also, the new Mac Mini looks really good and I'm budgeting for one early next year. Once a few less things are on fire.1 point

An interesting live performance by Chick Corea The last few Corea's outputs made me think of those Picasso's words "As a child I painted like Michelangelo, but it took me all life to draw like a child". Corea always played virtuoso piano, and has evolved through many styles, but it's lately when he, in my opinion, is playing wonderful simple music.1 point

RIP Willie McCovey at 80. This one hurts, although he has clearly not been doing well at recent appearances. Maybe this explains why the other Stretch had a lousy day yesterday. https://www.sfchronicle.com/giants/amp/Willie-McCovey-Giants-legend-dead-at-80-13352886.php1 point

This is very local to me, but the manager of the club where I used to do lights for a decade died recently. https://www.masslive.com/entertainment/index.ssf/2018/10/donal_rooke_northampton_music.html Don was one of the sane adults I talked to in the sea of drunken, tripping children that was the mid 00s drum n bass and house music scene. The club we worked in a seedy place, but I really enjoyed talking to him and some of the other elder staff. They'd seen enough insanity and still had appreciation for the music that it was an inspiration for me to put up with as much shit as I did and not go bonkers.1 point

RIP Hank Greenwald, longtime voice of the SF Giants. I equated his voice with Giants baseball throughout much of my youth. https://www.google.com/amp/s/www.mercurynews.com/2018/10/23/former-giants-broadcaster-hank-greenwald-dies-at-83/amp/1 point
