  1. Making some progress on the main amp board. It will have a USB-C PD port so it will accept 5, 9, 15 & 20 volts. I think a 20W charger should be enough, but I'll have to test that once the prototype is built. This is getting pretty dense. We'll have to have this partially assembled since the PD stuff is going to be a pain to do. There are 0402 components in addition to some of the larger chips with multiple pads under the chips. This has 4 amp channels, +/-300V supplies, 580V bias and now the PD stuff with boost / buck on the input and includes the battery charging components as well. Looking at using 3S lithium batteries. The board is currently 161mm x 61mm and I think I can fit what's left. There's still more to do, but here's where I'm at...

  8. Milo and I hung and plumbed a range hood vent for the kitchen. Then we assembled the new tile saw and started tiling in the kitchen. It went pretty smooth. Milo is already pretty good at setting and cutting tile after only 4 hrs.

  10. Hadn't heard of this show, until Al texted me about it last night. I got sucked in by episode one, with great music and fun characters, so I started watching more tonight. It takes place in London in 1983-88. I just finished, it's only 5 episodes. I feel like I just did a tour on the front lines of a horrible battle. It's not for the faint of heart, but it's the most realistic portrayal of the AIDS epidemic I've seen. It brought up so many memories that I haven't confronted in so long, and friends cut down way too early. A rough ride, but maybe that's what it has to be, to tell the real story.

  11. Yeah I'm a sucker for electropop and I like folk music too so definitely love them a lot. Oh Wonder kinda fits the same vein. It is always interesting to see what recordings scale well with good gear... definitely some pleasant surprises as well as disappointments. I went through their first album after listening to the live EP and it also sounds very, very good. Coffee is my favorite song of theirs 😜 Though Die Young has crept up as well!

  12. ^^ they are a fun and usually good-sounding listen overall! I was selling some speakers a few months ago and used some of their songs (Coffee was a big hit) to help make the sale.....

  13. it seems like at the moment the only thing in stock is out of stock notices.... 😞 check the height of the 1000uF cap... at 105mm tall its a beast which will not fit into a 2u case. (around 65mm depending upon the height of the standoffs for the pcb is about as tall as you can go for a 2U (80mm tall case)... are you going 120mm tall 3U case? the issues with very large capacitance input caps is that they will create a very large inrush current on switch on so you may need a larger value fuse than you would otherwise. Also the larger the cap the more diode switching noise it will cause because the caps will pull more current for shorter periods of time from the diode bridge rectifier. For the output cap some psu can become unstable if the output cap has a too high (or too low) capacitance. You may want to send a private message to kevin gilmore - the designer of the golden reference psu to get his input. Personally I use 470uF most of the time on the golden reference because I could not find any 680uF caps that would fit into the 2U cases I use.

  14. Off topic - but I am also working on a battery controller. Spent an embarrassing amount of time troubleshooting and replacing parts to find out that I had incorrectly labeled the “charging” and “error” LEDs

  17. I think so. However, I am not sure that the shunt PSU was ever finalized. I recommend going with one of the GRHV variants for the power supply. But the SRX itself remains a great, simple to build amp.

  18. Love that series, but it has been a long time since I played the original. I still think the DLC for Bioshock Infinite is some of the best DLC ever made for any game. I love the way it ties the entire series together.

  21. One of the last concerts we went to pre-lockdown was Graham Nash - and evening of music and recollections. Completely excellent in all regards Prior to that Neil Young in one of the weirdest concerts I've been to. At one point he and his band turned their backs to the audience, went to the back of the stage and jammed for 20 minutes. And that was one of the less strange things. Also Graham Nash and David Crosby (who have since fallen out big time). At one point Nash said to Crosby "behave - or you'll have to play with Neil Young and go deaf". Superb, absolutely superb.

  22. Some progress here and waiting on the KSc2752 transistors... Will be ordering the transformer, thinking about 2x 336@360mA secondaries for the BH Mini PSU in order to get out 400V for the CFAe boards. This is what @jose has chosen. @congo5 however used 300@340mA and ended up with 399VDC using the same BH Mini PSU. Any thoughts after running those for a while?

  23. I like it. If we can bring back outdoor BBQing again that would make perfect background music especially for the European visitors. They already think for some odd reason that I host strange BBQ events.

  24. The Fall - on Amazon Prime So Fiona Apple named her latest album after a line from this show. She is a pretty damn smart woman so I figured if she enjoyed the show it can't be that bad, right? Turns out Ms. Apple lead me down a good path! The Fall is a super-tense, deliberately paced police procedural set in Belfast. I finished the first series (season) and I'm hooked.

  25. Thanks Alan. I'll give that a read. Interesting that it's from back in the day Here's a rendering of what the amp will look like. It will be about 70 x 150 x 24 mm. We're looking at using USB-C PD so we'll be able to run off of most chargers (at least 20W). Power input will have a boost/buck converter so it could run off of 5/9/15/20V chargers. Still some work ahead, but we think we'll be able to fit a DAC in as well.

  26. Hmm, you might be right Jose, but the fins of the small enclosure Michael used above doesn't look like being much more of actual real estate... Btw, which one is it exactly? This might fit in the two balanced boards, the BH mini PSU and a transformer in the back. Bit too high probably but for the sake of bigger sinks. Chassis dimensions in mm are: outside W320xD315xH120, inside W220xD300xH112
