  2. Got the drawer dividers cut, glued and clamped up. I cut the drawer material to height, but a tad bit long and wide. I want to wait until the box cures, then I can un-clamp and measure to fit nice and snug. I have some drawer glide tape coming. This will attach to the bottom of the drawer sides and allow the drawers to slide with minimal friction. The box is too small for mechanical drawer glides.

  4. Decided to put in some speed work this morning since I was up at the crack of dawn seeing half the house off for a weekend (or more) of baseball in CT. Weather was pretty much perfect, warmish , no sun, virtually no wind.

  5. Three sides of all four drawers are cut, assembled and bottoms slid into place. The drawers will be left natural, with a clear lacquer finish. Except the drawer fronts, which will be stained to match the box. The box sits atop the drawers for weight, to ensure that they dry flat. Tomorrow I'll cut the fronts to fit and stain them. Not sure what finish I'm going to use on the box, but I think it'll probably be boiled linseed oil, with a top coat of Tried-N-True.

  9. I wanted to stain the box, inside and out, before the drawer dividers made that almost impossible. I made sure to leave the datos stain free, so that I can get a good glue up on the dividers. Stained the 1/4" ply for the dividers as well. When I cut the dividers to fit, that will give me good unfinished edges for glue. I decided on Espresso. I think I may give it another coat once it dries. That'll require another day before I can get the dividers in, but I think a bit darker is what I'm looking for.

  13. Definitely check out Dusk then, if you haven't. It's heavily inspired by the first Quake, but takes it a step further, borrowing a lot of level design tricks and atmosphere from games ranging from Portal and Half-life to immersive sims like Thief and System Shock. It seems like a simple retro throwback shooter for the first few levels... but it's not. There's a lot more to it. Edit on the topic of soundtrack: I think id/Bethesda parted ways with Mick Gordon, but they still have Andy Hulshult, who did the music for Dusk, Prodeus, Amid Evil, and a whole bunch of other recent boomer shooters besides, and I expect if they really are remaking Quake and want a metal soundtrack they'll have him do it. So it should be good, he's very talented.

  21. oh my god, where to start? The 2 rectifier tubes are GZ34 correct? Full wave tube diodes run as half wave diodes. Why? +/-400v power supply appears to be completely unregulated. 2 x el84+12ax7 is regulated +300v power supply? Original power supply caps rated at 450, definitely not enough. 550v just barely enough and that depends on whether the output tubes are actually warm before the rectifiers get warm. input tube current sources replaced by single power supply and resistor? cascode tube current sources replaced with resistor? Not even sure how i would fix this. But the tube rectifier and unregulated power supply have to go. Probably enough room for a pair of GRHV power supplies (kerry style). 300v supply likely has to go too. If its blowing fuses, could be that the high voltage transformer windings were not rated for >500v wrt ground. Reminds me of mikhail.

  27. Anyone come across The Beast of Turn. A 1911 Fiat S76. 110 years ago it held the land speed record at 185 mph. over 28 liter engine, four cylinders each one more than 7 litres. The guy that restored it bough the only two that were ever made, in rusted out total basket cases. He then spent ten years making a complete car, totally original in all respects. Watch the flames from the exhaust.

  28. RIP Roz and cheers to a life well lived. Condolences to you and your family Todd. Today would have been my dad's 99th birthday. Missing him so much, but happy he is at rest. Today we also moved in my niece to the Mayberry cottàge formerly known as Frank's place. Also happy that she is in a good place and looking forward to the next chapter. Without Frank.
