  1. Kipchoge just won the mens Olympic marathon by 1 minute 20 seconds in 2h8m38s. He put in a 5k split of just over 14 minutes and ripped the legs off everyone else. When he finished he looked as if he had been for a Saturday morning jog. But in nearly 30C and 80% humidity. For anyone who has not come across this guy, in 2018 with pacemakers he did an exhibition marathon in Vienna and went inside 2 hours. First human to average faster than 4m35s a mile for 26.2 miles!

  2. Uhh, with your height isn't 100 meters just three steps?

  3. Utterly insane. I couldn't average 4m35s pace for 100 meters. 🥵

  5. I think there are enough woodworkers on HC to warrant a thread now. Between Myself, Milo (AKA Al, AKA DOTU), Naaman, Doug, Jeff, Marc and I know there are others. I thought it might be nice to have a thread to keep up to date on various projects, new tools, new accessories and new enovations. For example: A new enovation I find very interesting, is a new blade stop safety system from The Felder Group. Like the system from SawStop, it's immediate, and it drops the blade out of the way before any damage to digits can be done. Unlike the SawStop system, it doesn't use a sacrificial cartridge to stop the blade. Don't get me wrong, the SawStop system was nothing short of a miracle in my mind. You sacrifice a $75ish cartridge and whatever the cost of the blade you're using. And a separate cartridge for stacked dato blades. But again, a couple of hundred dollars vs. a digit or more? It's a no brainer. But along comes The Felder Group (Felder, Hammer & Format 4) with new technology for sliding tablesaws. The PCS system simply drops the blade out of contact with your flesh. No damaged cartridges to replace, no damaged blade to replace, no over-inflated ego to repair (I'm an expert on that last one). Thoughts?

  6. This makes a great cup o’ joe. I’m wondering if it’s worth upgrading the power cable? Will it enhance the drip?

  7. I broke my foot and sprained my ankle badly doing swing dancing in late May. I finally feel healthy and fit, so HEMA today and judo Tuesday, and maybe Jeet on Thursday. I’m sure I could have done this already but I can do push-ups without pain today. That was a sort of my threshold.

  16. Since Olympic fencing is over ( is there any other Olympic sport?), our friend is back in Italy chillin so at 4 am we dropped Lance off at LAX for his flight to Milan to visit our friends and perhaps do some training. Lance was supposed to help with a fencing camp near Milan next week but that conflicted with the move in for Gonzaga. So being in Italy for a week and not working or competing will be hard for Lance to endure but that is life.

  22. Don't be silly Naaman. Of course it will make a huge difference. I'd recommend my favorite for home appliances. At $5,400.00 you could spend more, but the returns diminish after that IMO. https://soundapproach.com/audioquest-dragon-high-current-power-cable-single.html?gclid=CjwKCAjwgb6IBhAREiwAgMYKRm5gpczm3YNmCXJeliGb3IcrSpaLE1Js1_A34YyJI829XeJ4g7a6MRoC1FEQAvD_BwE

  23. I smiled when I took the first sip of this cup. I coarsened up the grind slightly: that was surely the whatever that whatevered today. That’s what it’s about, right? That smile when you take a sip? That was a “nailed it.” Like the first time you played that Mozart Concerto from memory in public perfectly, or figured out how to tie your shoes right. Anyway: a good cup. Kubrick would understand that while he faked the footage.

  24. 19.8:299 in 4.5 minutes. Stanley Kubrick couldn’t fake this if he tried (helps that he’s dead, on that bet).

  26. I've actually been listening to more podcasts in the car, because it takes too much attention to listen while I work or while I study, which seems to be 100% of my waking life these days. ...are my two favourites/most frequently listened. I've also listened to a couple of these -- I think they're at their best when Rachel joins them (Animals, Tales of Mystery and Imagination by Edgar Allan Poe), but they're even enjoyable when they do albums they don't like (Blackwater Park😞 https://prognotespodcast.com/ A couple I'm intending to listen: I'll definitely give that Ricky Gervais one a listen...

  27. Rolex is not a for profit company (every Swiss Franc of excess revenue goes to the Hans Wildorf Foundation, which is a charity). They make as many watches as they can at the quality level they are willing to settle for. They seriously are operating at full capacity with their infrastructure and logistics. They have no particular pressure to expand, and it’s like semi-conductors: even if they wanted to they couldn’t do it tomorrow. They are like Beck: they don’t owe the fans a new album. Does it suck? Sure. Tudor is semi-autonomous but they are on the same facilities. There is a reason why my most recent Rolex was made in 2012. I wish it were otherwise, sure. But it’s not a case of false scarcity.

  30. I had coffee this morning. It was good. I like coffee. Neil Armstrong presented me with my Eagle badge. I’m the fat kid, four to stage right, of Mr. Armstrong, with the pants that don’t fit. 10 years ago I would go into extreme detail about the nozzle trim system (the F-1 was, “by itself,” a monumental engineering achievement) on the Saturn V’s first stage, but you’ll have to excuse me: Stanley Kubrick is faking the footage of me changing my cat’s litter, as we speak.

  35. Woohoo! Lance's former coaches helped their fencers win gold and bronze in Men's foil. Both of the fencers, Alex and Cheung have trained with Lance at the club and been over to the house for BBQ dinners prior to Covid happening. I firmly believe my tritip had a play in those results.

  36. I'm not sure what those things are but they are sure as shit not Megatron's. Looks more like a SRX with some version of the Megatron output stage... This is why Kevin and I try to expose these fuckers as they are literally running away with peoples money. On a similar note, I have another amp from JR Audio here now and well... stay put for another horror story. That thing lasted for a few days before the PSU blew up... a sloppy clone of one of my old PSU's BTW.

  40. The headphones are only made of organic materials and grip the head well, however they do have a tendency to slide around a bit and my ears got fairly slimy rather quickly. I am concerned about long term life expectancy and batch to batch consistency. I may have received a faulty pair, connecting them up to my blue hawaii resulted in the drivers crisping up very quickly. The ear cups are also quite fragile and have a tendency to crack if dropped.
