  2. no i’m not d-_-b enough. i have a niche and a fellows
  3. Glad you're still with us, Knucks.
  4. Doug has it. Figure I would add some French flair since it is a Roubo. Plus adding a trailer home or dead squirrel would have been to much work.
  5. Today in "Knuckles Should Not Be Trusted With Electricity:" In 2006 I bought an APC UPS after my craptastic power company destroyed a bunch of electronics. It was a decently high end model for the time. I've replaced the batteries on it a number of times over the years. I mentioned in Mindless that I bought a new set last week. The arrived a couple nights ago. I attempted to install them and realized they were too fat. Just a couple mm out of spec, but still enough that two of them would not fit side by side in the enclosure. I only grasped the extent of this problem when I had them most of the way in. Undaunted and dunderheaded, I attempted to attach the wiring harness. Third party batteries don't come with the two part APC wiring that's necessary, so I've kept the same pair since 06. As I futzed with the larger section of the harness a HUGE SPARK went off, making a loud crack and scaring the bejesus out of me. As a certain trio of car British idiots are fond of saying "the poo came out" (metaphorically speaking, of course.) I did have the foresight to attempt the battery replacement with the unit unplugged. While I readily confess I am "paste eating stupid" I am not quite at the "needs help getting the top of the paste jar" level. I extracted the oversize batteries and noted that not only were they a bit too fat, the terminal polarities were reversed from spec. It's a miracle these batteries haven't caused a house fire. I also noted that one end of the wiring harness was now blackened like a Metallica song. Amperage is no joke, even at 12v. Dejected and distraught, I put down the UPS and all four batteries and left them alone for the rest of the night. This afternoon I finally picked up the project, all but sure I'd be administering last rites to my trusted APC. I felt genuine sadness. A UPS is not exactly a device one grows emotional attachment to, but the truth is modern APC products are not nearly as good as their mid 00s ones and my experience with CyberPower has been mixed as well. Also buying a decent new UPS is an expensive endeavor. I figure $400 minimum. That's ahem about 1/10 of the budget for a new Macintop. Well, I am pleased to report that after cleaning off the singed terminal to the best of my meager ability and re-installing the old batteries (which are past life, but at least the right size and polarity) the APC kicked on with its usual chirp and appeared to be as good as ever. I am now going to buy name brand APC batteries ($100, come with a new harness) and leave an excoriating review of the third party ones I bought on Amazon.
  6. The Flat Earth Thomas Dolby 1984 Hyper:
  7. bc546/bc556 starting to get very hard to get even though onsemi says they are going to make more, so this which needs massive amounts of checking.
  8. I somehow missed this thread, I'll start posting over here for my ping ponging/wood chipping. Made a dovetail. Not perfect, but it was my first try.
  9. This was a few weeks ago, but just got pictures after installation today. It's a floating bench that a customer asked me to build to match their dining table. It's 8/4" Rift Oak.
  10. The War on Drugs - Lost in the Dream. Going back through their discography in anticipation of the new album dropping Friday.
  11. What is this ship? 💩 I downloaded Monterey yesterday but I haven't had a chance to put it through its paces yet. It's very purple. 😈 P.S. I had to run Monterey on a 2020 MacBook Pro this morning to wipe a Big Sur volume and both Finder and Disk Utility crashed several times. I think most people should wait a few months before upgrading to Monterey.
  12. sort of partial to the weber eg-1 onyx myself. https://weberworkshops.com/products/eg-1?variant=31624830386229
  13. Looking back I can see it as well now.
  14. Definitely see how Steve thought that was an XLR Jack and two RCAs
  15. ^This, and I'd return the replacement ones that didn't meet spec and get my money back. Much better than the excoriating review... that can come after you get your money back.
  16. X3 on the welds. Made a dovetail.
  17. Agree, it’s not all that distinguishable from win10 and at least doesn’t introduce anything objectionable into the mix. Which is to say that I don’t really notice switching from machines that are and are not running it.
  18. Condolences Chris and Jimmy, take solace where you can and seek refuge in the company of friends as much as possible. Life can be brutal.
  19. Working on a motor mount.. I probably will cut off the excess above the pipe, but it made the weld a bit easier to do and get everything aligned
  20. This was one of my favorites back in 1977-78....fun to give it a listen again Then went mellower with some Cocteau twins
  21. It was a lovely New England autumn weekend, so a walk in the woods, some focaccia, and some apple galettes.
  22. Quiche that is a little more rustic than intended, but still delicious. Roasted potatoes, grilled zucchini, chèvre, herbs, and crust made with whole wheat pastry flour.
  23. I built my sister a redwood clad mailbox stand Then Steve and I tried to dig post holes in dry, compacted dirt before hiring a guy named Sergio to do that task. We set the posts with a high tech expanding foam product made by Sika that worked great. It is in a bag with two bladders that you pop to combine and then pour in the hole. It works very fast and was set in three minutes. No bracing and waiting for concrete to set.. The best part is that Home Depot had marked down these bags from $10 to $2.38 and when I checked out they were rung up as $0.01 each. Two cents for footings is pretty cheap.
  24. RIP pioneering funny man Mort Sahl. https://www.google.com/amp/s/www.nytimes.com/2021/10/26/arts/television/mort-sahl-dead.amp.html Also RIP the Falling Rock Tap House, which was a regular feature of RMAF weekends. I can still picture @Sherwood drinking beer there with an electric blue mohawk hairdo. Good times. https://www.google.com/amp/s/www.nytimes.com/2021/10/25/dining/drinks/craft-beer-bars.amp.html
  25. Sorry to hear, Chris, condolences to family and friends...and of course fuck cancer!! Also: Only read about this on a Loreena McKennitt newsletter, but RIP (October 12th) to Paddy Moloney of the Chieftans - he had played on all 44 ( ! ) of their albums. The pipes have called....
