  1. Went to my dad's to visit, just me and him. We talked about our family history (still much unknown), and of him playing basketball in Philadelphia growing up (and how basketball was a "Jewish game" early on). I recorded 2 long videos of it, so good to have this info although a lot of the family history is so vague.... I had mentioned he played against Wilt Chamberlain in a school playground basketball court....he mentioned that Wilt's nickname - before becoming Wilt the Stilt - was "Dippy" Chamberlain! 😄 This is pure gold for me, having this on record now. Karen had also done some recordings of her mom before she passed, about her family and what she knew. To be treasured for sure.....

  4. My recently passed Aunt spent much of her retired life researching family history. She also uncovered a crap ton of old photos. So I have a pretty complete family history on my Mom's side, going back a few centuries. One thing that side of the family is quite proud of is there Texas history. The family has very deep roots in the state, even before it was a republic. Even with a presence at the Alamo. My Dad's side is still pretty much an unknown. Especially since my recent finding that our German heritage was a myth. I now know that his background is basically United Kingdom, same as my Mom's, but have absolutely no specific information.

  8. w00t. After my first order getting utterly messed up, the OWC Thunderbolt 4 cable I bought off BozosPenisRocketsAndBridgeDemolition.com arrived today. Careful readers will note I bought a TB3 dock and not a TB4 one, but I still elected to get a TB4 cable. I did this for a couple reasons: First as Grawk mentioned in Jacob's Jacobless Jacobing, The TS3+ and TB docks in general are picky AF about wires. Secondly, I might end up with some TB4 devices in the future. The utter lack of drama in connecting the TS3+ dock was lowkey impressive. *boop* Power connected. External monitor comes to life. Turning off WiFi and the gigabit ethernet does what it says on the tin. I have not tested the optical digital output yet, largely because I cannot be arsed to dig up a cable of sufficient length and run it behind my desk. TL;DR: If you're going to make use of a Thunderbold dock, do not skimp on the cable. The OWC branded one I bought was about $60 shipped, and was much better reviewed than the sea of Chinesium ones that ranged from $15 to $40.

  9. I just sent him a private message on this forum. I told him that I wanted them for a mostly modern T2 build and that I just needed a few - enough to build one amp and a set of spares in case the build went wrong, and was not going to resell them for scalper prices on ebay....I suspect he might be less inclined to supply if the intent was to resell - especially for a profit.

  10. T-Square - Wish 2022 Yup, very easy listening, reminds a lot of the 80's Shakatak, Mezzoforte, and the like. Rather adequate when your brains are oxygenating below 90%

  14. It actually looks worse than that now. It seems a very Silicon Valley neighborhood. Dilapidated Smug Mug, RV park for homeless, car repair shops, Mozilla and Atlassian HQs, my 100 unit complex, dead flower shop complex/new 451 housing complex, new low/medium income housing/old Opera browser US HQ, gas station. Its mostly built on early silicon processing companies land so you sign wavers when you buy on the poisoned soil. So you know, basically paradise.

  15. Went to see Wagner's opera Lohengrin last night at the Royal Opera House, Covent Garden, London. This was the final part of my awesome series of birthday presents - this one from my wife, long planned and two months afterwards. It was bloody awesome. Everything was perfect - the setting, the set and lighting, and an Internationally renowned top flight cast of singers. https://www.roh.org.uk/tickets-and-events/lohengrin-by-david-alden-details With various courses of an excellent meal in the intervals. Carole was not a Wagner fan initially - but I've converted her. She was in tears of emotion by the end of the overture to Act 1 (honestly - so was I!). Now Wagner the man was a loathsome individual. Anti semitic, hateful towards his contemporary composers, and impossible to work with - a micromanager from hell. He described Brahms as "That bastard, Brahms", and put it about that Brahms' music was inspired by shooting birds from his balcony with a "Tyrolean bow" (there is actually no such thing) and listening to their dying cries. His dreadful reputation was not helped by Hitler being a Wagner fan, and it representing the pinnacle of music for Nazi National Socialism. Putting the awfulness of Wagner to one side - he was one hell of a composer! You just have to divorce the man from the music.

  17. Smart move. I wish I had done that with my mom, dad and sisters. Now they are all gone and their family knowledge with them. The only people left are me, my younger brother and his daughter. We remember some but most family knowledge is lost.
