I hear there is a new STAX slayer coming from a revolutionary new startup. Only US$2000 and guarantee a Happy Ending every time. They are located in Nigeria and only accept bank transfers. Stay tuned to Head-Fi for details.,3 points

Given that any discussion about these has been banned on the Russian forums and king fucktard Thinker is preaching the gospel fervently...I'll take a hard pass.2 points

Nothing to stop you driving from Class A. Lowest distortion configuration because no crossover non-linearities. I had a Krell KSA100mk2 for many years, which sounded great, gave a hernia to lift it, and it blew up twice to the extent that flames were imminent. It burned clean through the board at one stage when 2nd breakdown killed the power transistors, which killed the drivers and the emitter loads for the drivers burnt through the board. Great fun, but I tend to like non-exciting technologies now; um like the STM-T2 clone2 points

Even with the grossly inflated prices cavalli eventually went under due to too many hands in the cookie jar and shit quality requiring a lot of repairs, especially the liquid carbon. when there was only one standard for measuring distortion it was easy. Now that there are a number of adc based distortion devices each with different firmware and software, and digital filters you can generate impossibly low distortion numbers that are meaningless. jude might want to look at how measurements were done many moons ago and emulate that. Far more useful information. i think a reasonable number on sales exceed 8M$ over the 8 year life of cavalli. Lots of people are going to take a bath, just like singlepower1 point

definitely not ready for work this week. morning metal it is. Impetuous Ritual - Blight Upon Martyred Sentience1 point

i had the same as you, couldn't get over 300mv, then i tried 620ohm - even lower bias. so i tried the other direction ;-). sip socket makes that a lot easier, i solderd them in after the desolder of the 500 ohm resistors.1 point

It's that time of the year again. One of these days I plan to attend but I'm happy enough to get my yearly wake up call of what's happening in the music world outside of my own melon. Here's a link to NPR's Austin 100. I usually use it to jot down artists I want to try and find streams of and hopefully shamelessly copy! https://www.npr.org/2018/03/01/585356494/the-austin-100-a-2018-sxsw-mixtape1 point

No, not the ones by the trimpots (I don't think). This is the schematic I have; not sure where R23/R34 are on the board layout. I would definitely change out the 500R by the trimpots (R1 and R4 on the schematic) with the 620R or 680R. I see that there are 1K resistors in series with the trimpots; even so, you cannot get the effective resistance of 11K || 500R above ~478 ohms. With 620R, you can get it to about 586R. I wouldn't think that putting the OPA445 in should have the negative effects that you are seeing. dynahibalbjt.pdf1 point

I'm skeptical about remastering - I can't say I've ever really heard a remaster that I thought was much better, but I have certainly heard plenty that were worse. This one feels pretty easy to get wrong. But I am excited about the re-release of the old demo tapes. That should be fun.1 point

Yes, you can change r500 (next to Trimpot) for other from 620 Ohm to 1K.1 point

Had to refresh my memory on the original dynalo/dynahi. Yes, you should replace those resistors with the 620/680R to give yourself adjustment range. What do you have in for the bias resistors (R23/R34)? The schematic I have shows 100R, but I think most use 500R?1 point

That is the usual Cavalli BS. No way that the distortion+N is that low. I could test it but I kinda broke the tube when inserting it into the amp. I did order some new ones...1 point
