  1. We had a great time at the meet. However, this gathering was not quite the same without Justin, Collin, Matt, and Brent. Hopefully Doug will accompany us in 2019. I would like to thank Justin for sending GSX-MKII, Gilmore Lite MKII for the meet. I would also like to say thank you to Arthur of Matrix Audio for sending the Matrix & Violetric loaner equipment including the Matrix Mini Pro 2S & Violetric HPA-100. Really appreciate John Morison and Audio Club of Atlanta for organizing the event. Great to see Audeze & Schiit attending the event. I had a blast talking and chatting with Tom of Beezar Audio and listen to Doug & Tom Torpedo 4. Sorry for bad iPhone pictures. My table Doug & Tom new Torpedo 4 pre-production prototype (sorry for bad lighting & picture) We had a great time. Wachara's Jeklin Float Clone was there. I brought the Aristaeus and people love it with the SR009. SR-009 + Aristaeus bliss Brought along my modified CD3000 as well. Just about everyone likes it over the Sony MDR-Z1R. Audeze & Schitt were there teaming up. Their LCD-4 & LCD-4Z sounded wonderful out of Justin's GS-X MKII This lovely couple was there. They both checked out the SR009 & the Jeklin Clone. The lady in the middle is a true headphone geek. She owns the Focal Utopia. Toward the end of the meet, we had a little Torpedo 4 & GSX MKII shoot out. Everyone agreed that they were equally wonderful despite difference in tonality. This gentlemen actually prefer the Torpedo 4.

  2. We saw Ry Cooder and Rosanne Cash play Johnny Cash songs at SFJAZZ tonight and I am a better person for it. We also met Rosanne in the green room, but not Ry, sadly. Here is Claire, her sister and sister's girlfriend with American Country Royalty.

  7. So happy everyone enjoyed themselves! The lady with the Focal Utopias was at her second meet and vows to return next year WITH the Utopias this time so stay tuned!! I had a ball and just wished I had had time to hear more of the systems. BTW, I did get the HifiMan Supermini working perfectly today. Turns out I needed to install a firmware update that fixed all the problems we experienced yesterday. Listening to it right now and it even plays my Sennheiser HD580 and 650 louder than I care to listen!! Listening to it through my HifiMan HE400i's and the sound is amazing for the tiny little player that it is!! Keep the first Sunday in May open next year. Hopefully we'll be doing it again. Many thanks to Grover Neville with Schiit Audio who co-sponsored the event and also to his partner in crime Evan Grimm with Audeze! They brought a lot of great equipment for us to enjoy. Also present were Tom B from Beezar Audio who brought his stupid good amps, and Purk who not only brought his own equipment, but equipment provided by Justin Wilson of Headamp and Arthur Power of Violectric and Matrix!! Also others too numerous to mention who made this such a great meet! Can't wait until next year!! John

  10. Thanks a lot George, but I actually have a small stock of j79/k216 myself. Living in the middle of nowhere you need to be prepared. Have been socializing with the faulty channel today and we are now both happy again. Maybe it’s more of a Grounded Grid with dual tube input and active batteries than a T2. Picture below shows the modded T2. No j79/a1486 at the output stage. Upper right the middle a1486 is missing – replaced with resistor so upper tube grid voltage is set by a voltage divider. If you have a well defined supply voltage you don’t need to send 2.5mA through a 27K resistor – I think.

  11. Glad you had a great time, Purk! Probably the first ATL headphone meet I've missed since I've been on the scene, but I'm glad you're holding down the fort! Sent from my ONEPLUS A3000 using Tapatalk

  12. Sorry that was heavier than intended -- blame Sunday Night Syndrome! I'm now committed to 1993, so: The Verve -- A Storm In Heaven Such space-y goodness.

  13. This was introduced to me by my redheaded college girlfriend at the time and always brings back fond recollections of a couple of other things she showed me. But seriously, how can 1993 be a QUARTER OF A CENTURY ago? Some of it is now a bit close to the bone as an old guy.

  16. Joachim, let me know if you need any j79s, as I have a healthy supply.

  17. I haven't spent any time with it recently as I constantly have new toys to play with but I'll get back to it at some point. For the price it walks all over the Massdrop and Monoprice garbage. It's also far more useful, a dac (with a variable output too), a preamp and a headphone amp.

  18. Got a loaner Gilmore Lite MKII from Justin for a local Atlanta meet and this is a great sounding little amp. I'm very impressed by its clean dynamic and sheer sense of power for such a very desktop friendly amplifier driving my HD800 (black dragon upgraded cable). I also got lucky that my old Headroom DPS (dedicated/dynamic power supply) happen to work perfectly with the Lite MKII. Justin also confirmed it and the background is blacker while the sense of depth is better with a dedicated power supply. Great amp!

  19. I finished processing my recordings from The Monterey Jazz Festival back in Sept. and a few tracks from the 2016 festival too. That year I was in the middle of packing up my home in San Jose and dolling it up to sell so I figured I just combine the two. If you go to my SoundCloud page I posted 6 new tracks 2 from the Joshua Redman Quartet 2016 2 from Regina Carter's Southern Comfort Band 2017 2 from a fantastic tribute to Quincy Jones with Christian McBride bass, Hubert Laws flute, Dave Grusin keys, James Carter tenor sax, Lewis Nash drums and Valerie Simpson lead vocals. Here's a taste of Josh Redman playing in one of the medium sized venues ending 2016
