  1. We drove 8h to Thompson and took the overnight train to Churchill. Goddamn, I love taking Via Rail.

  2. Got hooked on Fred Dibnah YT videos today. Here's a good starting point.

  3. 5g would be more of a draw if we didn't live in Marin County where the only thing people hate more than vaccines is 5g antennas. πŸ˜‚ Phones looks nice but the product I really want is that new wireless charger that does the phone and watch at the same time.

  4. I bought Junior Brown 'Junior High' back in 95, and really liked the album. Somehow recently I lost it. So decided to expand my Junior Brown collection. He's quirky, but in the best way. Havin' a fun listening session via Parasound ZCD > Parasound ZDAC > Exposure 2010S integrated > AKG K1000.

  6. I waited to see if the SE would get an update. Getting a package sans charger/earphones. No biggie. Everytime I open a drawer I stumble across one of those or a lightening cable! Glad to see they're still taking trade ins for the 6s.

  7. They're handy for when my co-workers forget to bring their headphones – then they can still Zoom without yelling at their laptops.

  8. I get it on the headphones front. I haven't used a pair of their stock offerings for, well, forever (as in never). The kids use them as throw-away headphones when others break. I'm a full bluetooth convert for use with the phone.

  9. if you rotate the left transformer 180 degrees, makes the high voltage wires a lot shorter.

  10. If adding features to the board might I suggest a fuse? Not sure if this is a one-off and not worth bothering, but sometimes a chassis just doesn't lend itself to the somewhat monstrous integrated IECs that have both voltage switching and fuse provisions. That's what made me think of it anyway.

  11. Oh no, you and Claire were not alone in that opinion. That said, RIP Joe.

  12. My experience - the settings on most tube testers for the 5998 and 6AS7 are the same. And bear in mind, the only thing really worth looking at on a tester are shorts and if you're comparing sections or tubes, the relative readings. I've had tubes that tested "bad" that worked for years and tubes that tested "NOS" die the next day.

  13. Just finished upgrading my last Mac, that could be upgraded, to Catalina. Just in time to not upgrade to Big Sur.

  14. A couple of videos of Guita Rei. Here she channels John Lee Hooker with a dash of Creem. For the second one, use your headphones. It’s a binaural recording.

  15. No, Behringer are deeply dubious, as are most of their wares. However, I decided that I would throw any pretense of principles away for a cheap 303 clone and (slippery slopes being what they are) had to get the 606 clone to keep it company. It's actually reasonable- I don't think the hats are totally accurate, but I don't have a real 606 handy to compare with. I took it for a quick spin with the modular: (Used the RD-6's onboard distortion, but ran the kick through a wave folder and low pass filter)

  16. OMG, Thank you Stuart Smalley! It's got much more to do with trying to save other members from your incessant droning, than any kind of sadism (obviously you don't understand the difference between sadism and masochism). If you were a masochist, you would read your own posts to punish yourself. And thanks for warning me of your current location. I'll avoid the city like the plague!

  17. So far I dig it, dark pads or the ones with the cloth liner are really needed. Noticeable etch without them... with them tho a touch smoother without a massive lose in tactility. Overall pleasant, good tonality and detail with a nice stage. I'll have more in a few days once I get a chance to really listen. Comparisons to 009, 95X with Vesper and hopefully L700 Mkii if it arrives in time

  18. It's a Nordost Odin left in Patrick's root cellar for 98 days, then cut with a serrated knife, hand woven into a nine-strand litz, and terminated with proprietary plugs cut off display Galaxy Notes at a local Orange shop. The mic itself is unimportant, the sound is all in the cable.
