  1. Happy Birthday. Play the heel today, not the face
  2. What fun.....sorry to hear of the comings and goings Jacob, but I think sometimes companies get short-sighted. Nothing against the other gent, but often times you get what you paid for. Seen it a LOT at my last company......supposedly saving money ended up costing a bunch more in the end. In any case, it may have been worse than it's worth. Haj, hope Libby is better and you and wife are well-rested.... Today, I found out that Karma sometimes works. One of the Project Managers at my old company, who is technically very good but WAY too power-hungry, biased, & controlling, finally had it come back to her. Her project is now going to be almost a year late, and my old colleague told me today she is leaving the company (one of those "for other opportunities" type announcements). In his words: "[the project] is now delayed until November, and her head is rolling." Also found out that two more people gave notice there, leaving a drastic experience gap as they get even more Karma on them for laying off a bunch of good folks to try outsourcing. It's going to be fun watching them try to support the business the next few months. Gee, does it sound like I'm bitter? (far too long seeing great people treated like crap will do that to you)
  3. My Heidi Berry fest continues....today was Love
  4. Happy Birthday! Hope it is/was grand!
  5. I was thinking about this, and I think what happened to the Habs happened to the Bruins the first time they played Pittsburgh after the Cooke hit on Savard. Bettman was there, spoke to the teams (owners? GM's?), and the feeling was it was going to be so tight to play. As a result, the Bruins came out with a thoroughly lackluster performance. Cooke took a very short and light beating from Shawn Thornton, and the Pens walked away with the game easily. Montreal is certainly MUCH better than they played that night.....and as I said, I still fear them if the Bruins play them in the PO's.
  6. Actually went on a date with my wife last night. My son was at a sleepover birthday party, so we went to a local Boston-style trendy wine bar and overpaid for small portions Still, it was nice to get out as adults, food was very good, and I tried a Sandeman Ruby port after dinner. Decent cheap port, though I think I like Six Grapes better.... Nate, hope your daddy-daughter weekend is going well. I've always enjoyed the time with my son (despite this post).
  7. Thoroughly enjoyed the Bruins-Canadiens game last night, even though it was so one-sided; Bruins finally won a good game of hockey against them. The Habs have had the Bruins' number pretty much all year. And with the build-up of the Pacioretty hit, and the closeness of the race for home ice advantage in the first round, it shaped up to be a truly big game. I was ecstatic about the way the Bruins played, but disappointed that the Habs didn't do better; they ARE very much a better team than what they showed. Despite the confidence that this gave the Bruins, I still fear them facing Montreal in the first round if it works to be that way. And it sounds like Pacioretty may be back for the playoffs, wishing him all the best.....
  8. Good luck to all, for jobs and clean ears!
  9. Extra warm thoughts and wishes coming your way from here, too! Sorry it wasn't the best of days, it deserves multiple extra celebrations when things settle, to make up for it!
  10. Happy Belated to both! Hope they were great days
  11. Happy Birhtday, may it be a good night! 5-9 (pm to am ) celebration
  12. Talked or e-chatted to a couple folks from my old company....they had a layoff of 27 people in IT alone.....maybe 20-35%......outsourcing..... Some are transitioning and will get a bonus if they stay on to help; that's not so bad. But I'm sure it was an exhausting, horrible day for everyone.
  13. I served last year during a civil trial, it was pretty interesting. We had to take the emotion out of it (we were all feeling very bad for a guy that had an accident), and focus on the legal rules. He ended up not getting any settlement. It was only a day and a half, and a decent learning experience. We also realized that his council stunk; they should have easily been able to recognize the legal ruling that would have dismissed his complaint. And because they didn't file for something in the situation where the employer WAS likely negligent, they got nothing.....
  14. Good luck Jacob and Bryan! And dangit, someone used the "break a leg" line already! My advice is not to promise any sexual favors.....HINT, but don't promise.....
  15. I work near a Target store, went there after work, it was maybe 5:15. I wasn't even thinking of the ipad 2 release.....when I walked around the electronics section, I could almost hear crickets. I popped in the row where they have the apple gear, and remembered the release (a really big note that they were available at 5:00 didn't escape this watchful eye ). All of a sudden, an in-store security guy comes to me, and says they have some ipad 2's FS up at the counter, several models left.....I thanked him, but said I wasn't interested in buying today. It was just very weird; from my one isolated perspective, the launch wasn't a big deal.
  16. Funky guitar work, reminds me a bit of Vini Reilly/Durutti Column.....
  17. Knwo what you mean, Dinny. My new job is chock full of people who love to meet.....and then meet about meeting..... I got called in to a meeting late afternoon today, and they requested I take over some work a consultant is doing (I'm contract to perm, not as pricey hourly as they are). The consultant who was presenting said to me afterwards that they spent 25 minutes trying to talk things through, and when I got there we resolved the action plan in about 5 minutes. Lots of challenges, but some really good people and a bright future for creativity. Looking very forward to getting over that hurdle of inactivity.

That IS nice, nothing super-special about the Skagen's but I like them. I have the charcoal face/no date Titianium model, my wife and I got matching ones in Aruba when we traveled there. We spent about $100 on each....and then she lost hers
  19. In H-C alcoholic tradition, but maybe in not as good taste as many here, I picked up a six of Abita Springs Turbo Dog.....
  20. Sad news all around, so sorry to hear of it all, especially the Zachary news. I can't imagine anything worse than losing a child.....my thoughts and best wishes are with the family. Not sure if it'd help, Nate, but if you think so please let the family know how much your raffle and his story touched us here.
