And now what did you do TODAY?
Good luck with the on-call. Haven't done that for years either, don't miss it at all (especially since the application I was supporting at that time was designed by a dolt and needed almost nightly attention). Do you get extra $ for being on-call....?

And now what did you do TODAY?
Just don't talk work at home and all will be well.....I used to work with a husband and wife who lived by that rule and it was AMAZINGLY successful. They talked home at work but almost never vice-versa. If that fails, just remind her YOU have seniority

Got a Starbucks gift card from work as part of a reward, so aside from liquids picked this piece of hipster music up....actually not bad, light slightly jazzy funk fun.

What made you smile today?
No, Brian was a NH boy for years, including college. Only ever worked in Boston and NH. Your post made me think of Erland Van Lidth, though, who played Grossberger in a Pryor/Wilder film and looked a bit like Brian. http://bavatuesdays....ger-and-dynamo/

What made you smile today?
That is incredible Vicki! Those are the "this is all worth it" moments! I met up with 4 other ex-co-workers, been a while since we got together. Mexican appetizers, 3 margharitas, and TONS of smiles and laughs. When I left the company, 2 weeks shy of 7 years there, I almost wrote on my FB page: "lots of sad goodbyes today, but it was a 280-lb bald man that brought the tears to my eyes." Thought it sounded a little too prison scene though.... If anyone watched old wresting, there was a guy from i think the Southern states named King Kong Bundy; never saw him wrestle, just saw pictures. THAT was basically my friend Brian, the best Data Architect I've ever known.

What made you smile today?
Awesome story, Tyll, and it's even nicer when you have that type of relationship with a teenage daughter! We went to a Bar-Mitzvah today, of some friends who have been close for many a year (his parents and my father & stepmother are best friends). It made me smile to see they joy they went through, and reminded me of our recent experience.

The Headcase Stax thread
Yes, make sure that UPS doesn't try to automatically claim "insufficient packing." I once bought a Pathos Reference Integrated @ > $3k, and FedEx (the newly bought ground division) did some nasty shit to it, even though it was well-packed in a wooden crate. They initially tried to claim insufficient packing, but I raised holy hell and they ended up brining an outside party to it. Took a while (month plus), but I got the $. Found another Pathos Reference, and UPS shipped it. Still some minor damage, the LED lamp got bumped and broke off. But it all worked perfectly function-wise, so i didn't chase that one down. In any case, good luck, and don't take no for an answer!
