I would say try before you buy (even though the resale on the MK1 seems to be pretty good), since it will be pretty steep to build a system around them. I'm very glad that I got to hear them at a meet and at a dealer, otherwise I probably never would have bought them.

Probably a very, very long time. You don't hear of many Stax electrostat driver failures. And I believe the O2 is their most robust design to date. I don't know much about the electrets. I too store them in the flight case when I'm not using them.

How? If I was going to use the amp long term, modding a bias transformer inside might be cool.

Moved the Audio Space Galaxy 34 (in linear mode) into the Stax setup again, and listened a bit more. Opened up the upper mids and treble a bit. Nice improvement, I'm going to leave this amp in my setup for the time being. Will try and get a picture, it's a cool looking amp when lit up.

I think Reks is referring to the M-L. I'm not a fan either, but it's not because of the bass. The dynamic bass woofer and the estat panel just didn't have a seamless transition.
