  1. I should hope not! It's the stuff that comes in the can labelled 'okra'. Maybe I don't know what slimey is. I would suggest: if you struggle to get it from the plate to your mouth with a fork before it slides off -- like fajita onions and peppers, buttered spaghetti -- then it's slimey -- the okra I've had is more like green beans -- maybe I should try some by itself without adding it to a recipe?
  2. Yeah, we've had this discussion before. You lost me at slimey -- I've never had that problem with okra, and it was a very complimentary texture and taste to stroganoff, and added some soluble fiber, which is always something I look to do when adulterating a recipe.
  3. Not so much watching as listening -- Dudamel's complete cycle of Beethoven's symphonies: http://www.medici.tv/#!/dudamel-palaudelamusica-beethoven1-2
  4. bison/okra/stroganoff-y thing -- didn't have mushrooms, so added cream of mushroom, and reduced it more, added extra black pepper and garlic, came out delicious, and now I have enough for a week.
  5. We didn't get anywhere near a foot, but we got a layer of ice at the end, which is melting off, and will refreeze later tonight. Probably by not combating global warming...
  6. RIP John Lever -- I love Chameleons (UK).
  7. We finally got some. Best wishes to those farther North and East. And North and West. I should probably listen to the news for a bit.
  8. I've never heard of this show before, but now I must see it. I hated Zach in the Hangover movies I saw (1 & 2), but he still gets a pass because of the Between Two Ferns series of skit/interview/skinterviews. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=6XSEi1jTR58
  9. "I don't see the resemblance."
  10. Awesome. Yeah, something like that. I don't think they used as much cheese (my recipe consists of driving to Dogfishhead Alehouse and ordering one), but the rest of the recipe sounds right. (Unless there were tomatoes -- I missed it if they mentioned tomatoes, but it looked red at the end there.) Looks pretty easy, I may have to try and make this myself, that way I can reduce the salt. (I use low-salt broths, mostly.)
  11. FTFY I need to learn that lick on guitar...
  12. I had a Shepherd's Pie.
  13. That's it, fuck this, I'm going out to eat lunch.
  14. Yeah, no, I didn't mind, I'm just sorry I cancelled movie night to attend her concert, I probably could still have made it to my friend's house for a shorter movie. (We don't usually start 'til 9.) She talked about switching careers to doing standup comedy, because less equipment, and less equipment problems, and then promptly had an equipment problem. Then she said she only knew two jokes, told one, but then made several others over the course of the evening.
  15. Laurie Anderson -- really unusual gig from her, lots of musical improvisation, jokes, very enjoyable, despite being done before 9, and a few technical hiccups early on.
  16. Amy Schumer: the Leather Special I laughed so hard, I farted.
  17. Happy birthday! Please don't be a stranger. (party favour noise)
  18. Bojangles >> Cracker Barrel, or roughly about the same?
  19. !!! I reference that skit all the time. Scary. We must be similar ages.
  20. I'm pretty sure that's in your head. (waits)
  21. I'm pretty sure you can set them on top. Bananas average less than 7.5 cm in width. But yeah, they'll bruise like that, so FAIL at banana hanging.
  22. BUY ALL THE THINGS! It is the Head-Case way.
