Massdrop has these for $780. Worth it? I still want the Fostexes, they're prettier.

Cable modem/router?
Dusty Chalk replied to Dusty Chalk's topic in GoRedwings19's Computer Help Hotline
They didn't sell it in black, so I got the combo unit (SBG6580). The salesman confirmed what you said -- that I should get separates, but then he said I could try it and return it if I didn't like it, so I went ahead and I will play with it until the weekend of August 8 or 9, at which point I will return it for separates. Here's to being eternally optimistic that they eventually ironed out the kinks. -

Sweet, sold (if Microcenter or Best Buy sell it, will stop by on the way home). Thanks for the links. ...and confirmation. ...everybody. -
Cable modem/router?
Dusty Chalk replied to Dusty Chalk's topic in GoRedwings19's Computer Help Hotline
Ah. Yes, I was thinking of getting a combined modem/router, maybe not. Is this the consensus, that they all (combined modem/router units) suck donkey balls? That's too bad, it would've been nice to get an all-in-one solution. -
I'm tired of paying rent on my cable modem, want to get my own. What should be my criteria? Also, my router seems to be on its last legs anyway. Also I'd like something somewhat slightly secure-ish. (Read: as secure as is possible without writing my own OS.) Right now I'm on cable, but FIOS is an option. Does that make a difference? I.E. if I switch, is there a router that I can get that I will still be able to use? The lady on the phone said "Arris". Yes/no/disagree/agree-but-with-qualifications? She actually said the one she would recommend isn't even on the list yet, it has a dual-band router, which tells me they can make it work. Yes/no/disagree/agree...? Here is the list of choices. DOCSIS 3.0, yes?

Good luck, Jacob, but you don't need it, you'll be fine! Your daughter is lucky to have you! But friends are nice, too.

They've added videos. Watching Daft Punk's Electroma now -- going to have to defer the rest, it's over an hour.

I didn't like Bilateral anywhere near as much as The Congregation or even Coal. EDIT: That sequence of Rewind/The Flood/Triumphant just rocks mah soxorz. NO SLEEP 'TIL CAVITY!

No no, the videos I posted are at the correct speed. I tried speeding up the videos I found ("(full album)" type stuff -- was around 1.5 hours, IIRC), but it sounded disjointed with itself, if that makes any sense. I'd rather not revisit -- it is the stuff of musician nightmares -- but you're welcome to do what you will. As always. I have a feeling it's a little too saccharin cloying for many repeated listenings (~100 or so), but for now (~12 or so), it is appealing to my sweet tooth.

When it leaked, before it was released, I was all hot and bothered about it, but all the leaks on Youtube were 1.5 speed for some reason -- it was annoying. Don't go there.

2015 - Which Microsoft laptop to get?
Dusty Chalk replied to guzziguy's topic in GoRedwings19's Computer Help Hotline
...or a hybrid. You might notice a small performance boost, due to starting with a new image, but that will be negated by the bloatware, so the first thing I'd do is uninstall all the bloatware. -
Yeah, somehow I still have a hard-on for that copper one. I can't imagine wood would dissipate heat as well. I'd be curious what it looked like after a couple years.

2015 - Which Microsoft laptop to get?
Dusty Chalk replied to guzziguy's topic in GoRedwings19's Computer Help Hotline
If that's the case, there was a small discussion that Ed, Peter, and I had regarding Chrome being such a memory hog, and there's a plugin you can install that disables tabs that aren't active. Don't remember the name of the utility, perhaps ask Ed (edwood) and/or Peter (iron_dreamer). The discussion was on Facebook, and I'm vehemently Facebook-tarded regarding searching older threads. Once you do that, you'll definitely be fine with just about anything, if all you do is browse and email and whatnot. Also, a trick I do before I learned of the utility (or rather, still do, because I haven't installed the utility yet) is copy my profile (%LOCALAPPDATA%\Google\Chrome\User Data\Default) to another directory (backup disk) (while Chrome is down), and then I can close all the tabs. If I want to come back to them later, I just swap this backup back in (it's all guitar porn and funny pictures and pics of cats and the occasional sexy picture of Oh Land and Kylie, anyway). And that way I don't lose any of my logged in sessions anywhere. -
Leprous, The Congregation -- metal with keyboards and clean vocals, I am in heaven. And some pretty spiffy modern production.

Not too many laptops have two drive bays, unless you mean mSATA for the SSD. As an alternative, you can always put in a hybrid drive, which is basically both in one. -

You've never seen the Wheatfield HA-2, then? Of course it only has one truly massive tube, one large, and one "normal" sized.

(whimper) Curly maple looks so hawt on an amp.

Lollers, doesn't even fit on the plate.
