  1. Erotic Elk -- random Spotify stuff -- muy bueno retro future pop -- anthemic, like VNV Nation and Apop B, but...less uplifting, more cathartic.
  2. Anathema, Falling Deeper -- non-heavy versions of (previously) heavy songs -- doesn't work well in the car, so I brought it in, and it does well as concentration music, since it's almost instrumental RIYL Steve Hackett's acoustic classical guitar work
  3. Roller bag/backpack? I actually saw one at Ikea that has wheels that I was tempted to give a try. (I have the same problem, for different reasons.) UPPTÄCKA Unfortunately, it only fits up to 15" laptops, and I don't think there's another. I'm sure someone makes something similar for your desktop replacement. Check CostCo?
  4. I listen to my Spotify all the time.
  5. There are previews on the website, but I don't know how to take waveforms. They sound pretty loud, so I suspect they're guilty as well.
  6. godhead, At the Edge of the World -- e-metal, hard pop, whatever you want to call it, I like it. I knew these guys before they added their defining electro element (they used to be DC area natives). I still think it's better, I'm just sayin' how far back I go with them.
  7. I'm using that the next time we get a troll. "May be used by any intelligent person." indeed.
  8. Hope so, too! We're actually more interested in what you're drinking, if you're going to take notes, and only have one sheet of paper.
  9. Nick Cave & the Bad Seeds, Push the Sky Away 1. We No Who U R (available Dec. 3) 2. Wide Lovely Eyes 3. Water’s Edge 4. Jubilee Street 5. Mermaids 6. We Real Cool 7. Finishing Jubilee Street 8. Higgs Boson Blues 9. Push The Sky Away
  10. I've only listened to it once, so I will have to give it another chance once I get over the shock. Me, now: Sleep Research Facility, Stealth This is pretty much the epitome of what I call 'damnbient'.
  11. Happy Birthday! (party favour noise) (And that really was a party favour, not my cat)
  12. "...in an order that would surprise you..."
  13. I think the only people who have heard the freq-phased versions are Dinny and Tyll and Larry.
  14. Mars TV, "Reminisce" -- retro synthpop
  15. No I didn't, so thanks for posting that.
  16. Ah well, I'll just share your pics with her then.
  17. Those are beautiful pics, Knucks. My sister ...er... plays with fire. I may have to introduce the two of you, although you are on opposite coasts. You ever get into the Bay area?
  18. Nice! Looks superb! However ... that handle. You really think a kitchen cabinet handle can handle (ahem) that weight?
  19. I'm basing that entirely on my belief in the importance of phase information. Since this is now done entirely without the DSP, then I lose interest in paying the extra money for it...at least for now. If he does something else with it in the future, then I will of course revisit. So yes, there may be other benefits, but IMHO they are negligible and are outweighed by the cost.
  20. ...or I guess you could just leave the knob up and use whatever source you're using as a preamp. Although then you get into the question of whether or not the digital attenuation degrades the sound. (Short answer -- it depends on what algorithm they're using -- if it's one of the better companies, then it's probably fine.) If you're doing it from within a computer, you could try just setting it to 50% or 25%, and using the knob on the Bryston in the upper half of its travel to adjust volume. That way you're only using 1 or 2 bits of information. EDIT: That said, all of my suggestions were compromises. Especially the preamp -- not sure adding an extra component to your system is going to degrade your sound any more or less than using digital attenuation, even Windows digital attenuation.
  21. I forget, are the LP2's a significant improvement on the LP's? I'm not sure which pair I heard at the Apple store, but I remember liking them considering they were "major retail".
  22. ^ That's brilliant. Hey, if you already have 13's, then they already have your impressions, neh?
  23. That should never be a response, but yeah, that said, a lot of vendors do say exactly that sort of shit. There are attenuators that you could put inline, or you could have someone mod it with a better attenuator. Or you could have someone bypass the attenuator and put a preamp in front of it.
  24. He should still be able to do a backup and restore from within iTunes, neh?
