Everything Everything, Man Alive
I dl'd this purely on a whim, and it is bizarrely good. Think Daryl Hall & Peter Gabriel's twisted offspring on lead vocals (he does this weird thing where he's constantly changing between his head voice and his chest voice, but not yodeling or crooning, just singing in this really bizarre range for him), and some 90's R&B backup band on instruments -- yet, they're not just some backup band, but the kind of backup band that have real chops -- prog-level chops -- but they're holding back when they're playing R&B, and they fully let go on this album. It's prog, but it doesn't sound like any prog I've ever heard before. There are disco beats, electronic claps, and all sorts of things. Just strangely good. Going to have to listen to this again.
