Cambridge Audio DacMagic -- $400, balanced.
morphsci replied to Hopstretch's topic in Home Source Components
You do have to be careful with the DacMagic as it does have a very hot analog output and can easily push some headphone amps into distorting. I cannot use it without attenuators with the little Audio Alchemy Amp. It works just fine with the GSX. -
Plus they're white.

Miguel, If you are still looking for an X-10D, drop me a PM.

Fucking moron with computer source question......

I was originally a sceptic about Amarra making any difference and my initial listen to it at CanJam did not improve the situation. However a later listen at DanJam with more familiar music and headphones as well as the ability to easily switch it off was a reveletaion. Luckily, I'm an old guy with early onset memory loss so it was relatively easy for me to do a bunch of switches and lose track of whether Amarra was on or off. About as close to a blind test as I'm willing to waste my time on. Damnit, if I wasn't perfect on picking when Amarra was on and when it was off. After that I was able to focus on the sonics and it took the "edge" off the music without losing detail or transient speed. Sorry, but you are being a close-minded dick and your skepticism isn't healthy at all. It is just as much based upon faith as position you are criticising. Oh, and my time is worth infinitely more than my money because of my family friends and life. So either chill out or pick up your -
^^^^ Yes, Yes, Yes. I have a tablet PC and it works great. Sitting on my desk. As a laptop it is big, clunky, quirky (Well it is Vista) and it takes fucking forever to boot up. I also need to consolidate information (with adequate backing up) and I want it all available to me all the time, everywhere. We should already be there but I will take what I can get. So wrap me up an ipad and I'm good to go.

Spent all of last evening putting together our replacement treadmill. Put it together, wouldn't turn on, took it apart, checked everything, put it back together, it still won't turn on. FFFFFFFUUUUUUUUUUU

Yes increased processor speed is very important but controlling a 24" Hi-Def monitor with the touch involves a lot of zooming and scrolling so the extra real estate really does help. I also use my tablet at home as a remote and it is much easier and faster to accomplish things. So yes I really do want moar real estate Yep that was the conclusion I came to after my initial techno-geek disappointment. The one ring to bind them all.

Sorry for your loss KD. Me: Just took apart our broken treadmill, returned it and picked up its replacement. Waiting for Karen and Peter to return from swimming lessons so we can drive up to Champaign and get some Sashimi.

I liked that article and I think they absolutely hit the nail on the head. I also do not think all tech-saavy users are decrying the ipad (Ok well maybe everyone thinks the name is pretty lame). I think you can see it right here and in the work place that many are seeing how it can be used to solve specific problems for them. That is what computers should be, problem solving tools, not problem creating tools. The creativity will now be in thinking up new ways to use the device and extend its functionality in new directions. I may have just joined the cult of Steve. @Dusty - There are many uses that will be realtively platform independent. I plan on using it as a VNC remote device for both Windows and OSX machines. It will be very much more functional than my Touch just by virtue of the larger screen.

I think most pharmacy's carry it.
-
We'll let VPI guard it. Should be safe enough.

Yes I generally wear them slightly more forward so my ears are more towards the rear of the pads.
-
Definitely agree with that. The camera interface thingy just got me thinking.
-
More interested in just having it read from it for music storage. Knowing Apple they may even hobble that in some way.
-
Yes we have. Our current plan is to use the hotel to receive vendor shipping and have the local crew provide package handling for members. Of course if any members prefer to use the hotel for shipping then we can certainly go that route and provide the details. The hotel has a storage area for shipped packages as well as a defined set of rules and charges. The charges are why we decided to help with receiving packages from members.

I wonder if that camera connection kit would also let you connect an external USB HD?
-
Since I am moving to Amarra in the big rig you can color me interested as well.
-
More importantly, which one is going on the sale block?
-
Officially things will wrap up about 3:00 PMish on Sunday so that vendors and members have time to dismantle everything by 5:00 PM. No problem. I have it on good authority that that particular member knows where Ray lives and could certainly make a friendly visit.

Since the Dac-Magic is essentially the same Dac as in the 740C I cannot see any reason to buy and use it over your CDP. I do not know if the output stage is different but I would be surprised if the Dac Magic had a better output stage than the 740c. -
Ill be there from Wednesday on if not earlier. I'm always up for eating, drinking and carousing.

I was actually thinking of someone else, but Ray would work.
