And now what did you do TODAY?
Crappy, The best teacher that I ever had was an Indian guy named Shashi. He was brilliant Phd from Princeton that ultimately chose to teach highschool math and physics for reasons that remain a mystery. Anyway, while he was my teacher he met the love of his life, the German teacher at the highschool. Like you he was extraordinarily nervous about introducing her to his very traditional family - she was white, divorced, etc. So they dated for a couple of years and decided to get married and he finally took her to meet his family. It went very, very badly. He chose to honor his family's wishes and immediately ended the relationship. I saw what it did to both of them for the next two years and it wasn't pretty. She eventually moved on, got married, had kids and is happy. I don't think he ever really recovered and last I saw him (some 5 years ago) he was still single and more of a recluse than he was before. Bottom line, no one can really tell you what to do in your situation. My advice, follow your heart. Some of that is telling you to respect your parents wishes, some isn't. You need to figure out which part wins. My 2¢, you're not going to spend the rest of your life living with your parents and you might just do that with Julie.

^^ Sounds like a great day. Ian, sorry to hear about the mechanical issues, at least you were already planning to take it in this week.

This morning was simply beautiful. 70 and sunny by 8am so I snuck out for the same 25 mile loop I did yesterday. Forced myself to do a tempo ride and kept my average HR at 150, which is very low for me. Still managed am average of 16.5mph which made me very happy. Also spent an hour and a half mounting the good wheels last night and the difference was very noticeable.

Got a nice 25 miler in this afternoon. And here's one more clip from Fort Rock earlier in the week.

Google Android OS
Yeah, Mike that was my gripe with the two previous Android tablets that I had. The keyboard (and resulting lag) was just unacceptable.

CJ, have you called the doc again? 4 days at that level doesn't seem good.

Yeah, it's a great place to ride. Hopefully I'll get a few more 1 minute clips loaded up tonight that show the variation in terrain that you experience in a short, 6 mile loop. There are highly technical decents and climbs like the clip shows but also some open, flowing sections, some tight in-the-trees stuff, the bridges, a few big drops for the brave (not me) and even a jump or 3.

The Official Head-Case Photography Thread.
Dinny, Get a monopod. During the few times that I shot sports stuff it was invaluable for being super quick to setup/move around while not adding much bulk. It made all sorts of fun shots much more possible not to mention reducing fatigue. Jeff, Super jealous of the fisheye. I've lusted after one for years but seeing how little I use the super-wide that I have the fisheye would probably get even less use. Still, I've always loved the effect.

A short clip from today's ride at Fort Rock. I'll work on a few more, it took forever to get this one to work.

Drugs, drink and rest are about all you should be doing, CJ. Not fun, but it'll hopefully pass pretty quickly.

Apple Tablet
Dinny, My wife found her mini to be really slippery and ended up getting a hard shell/smart cover combo. I think it's a case made by Speck and the smart cover is the offical Apple version. She likes it quite a bit, other than the mini smart cover not being nearly as functional as the full sized version due to the cloth hinge.

Samsung GS3 phone, Gene. It does very well outdoors. It was taken at mile 14, in North Hampton on 1A, where I stopped for a snack.

Got up this morning, looked at the weather and saw a big green blob about 5 miles from the house. What the heck. So I rode in in the rain, which was actually quite nice since it was 70+ out. Made good time and it felt damn good to be back on the bike. So much so that I decided to take the long way home down the coast and get 30 in. That decision had mixed results. The scenery was excellent, the 15mph headwind not so much.

If you had more lead time I'd send you a pair of the Radioshack cans to use but I don't think I could reliably get them there in time.
