December 25, 201411 yr Reks, riding my road bike always made my back feel better (post-microdysectomy for Cauda Equina Syndrome). It was probably the stretch that I just wasn't getting elsewhere, but started to get better after every ride. Lungs and legs and, well, everything else always hurt, but that's because, well... I'm out of shape. **BRENT**
December 28, 201411 yr Considering it was 32° outside, 20 miles was actually rather fun this morning. Turning down the gravel road was a mistake though.
December 29, 201411 yr Jose, are you working up to an around-the-island ride? I just finished my first bicycle ride in years. I'm starting out slowly and maybe went 1.5 mi today. The seat started hurting right away. Hopefully my butt will get used to this kind of abuse. You can see a picture of my new bike

I'm working for a tour around the island on April. Also here in Gran Canaria we have the highest mountain pass in Europe: http://ciclored.com/puerto-mas-duro-europa-pico-nieves/ Next year (if I have a good feeling on November) I want to try climb it.
December 31, 201411 yr @Brent. I have a pair of Pearl Izumi riding shorts that I typically where when riding motorcycles, especially in the dirt. I couldn't find them for the ride. I was finally able to locate them today and will wear them for tomorrow's ride. @Jose. Enjoy your rides and good luck with the April ride and your eventual assault on the pass.
December 31, 201411 yr I'm starting out slowly and maybe went 1.5 mi today. The seat started hurting right away. Is the saddle to narrow? Here's a video on how to check.... https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=E7j9LUVJrjA
December 31, 201411 yr It's the stock saddle on a new bike, so it's very possible that it doesn't fit well. Of course, it's just as possible that my old butt just isn't used to riding a bicycle. I'll use the linked video guide to see if mine is too narrow. Thanks for the tip.
December 31, 201411 yr @Jose. Enjoy your rides and good luck with the April ride and your eventual assault on the pass. Thanks. A note: Alberto Contador and Saxo Bank team train here on Gran Canaria
December 31, 201411 yr Hehe. Second, multiple bicycle ownership of the same type of bicycle invariably creates what is known as a mutual parting reaction. The MPA occurs when broken parts on one bike are replaced with functioning parts on the unbroken bike, eventually resulting in two bicycles, neither of which works. What is this "broken parts" he speaks of? I'm not sure I've ever experienced this...
January 2, 201511 yr Second ride today, about twice as far as the first ride. I wore bike and mountain shorts. That gave me double padding. It felt a lot better today. I haven't had time to get some chalk to measure seat bone width, but I'll do it soon.
January 2, 201511 yr Even if the saddle is a good fit, your butt may need some time to get used to it. This is also important to remember if you spend a good deal of time off the bike. The saddle that felt awesome all last summer/fall and now feels like bad after a lazy winter feels like bad because your butt is no longer used to it.

The saddle that felt awesome all last summer/fall and now feels like bad after a lazy winter feels like bad because your butt is no longer used to it. This, 100%. Every year I have to allow for time for my ass to get re-accustomed to the seat. The first few rides are painful but you'll (re)adjust to a seat that fits well quickly.
January 2, 201511 yr ^ Yup or weight gains too. After my CF of a holidays I'm up another 15 lbs and now I'm the heaviest I've been in 4/5 years. That ends now, though working out is going to have to wait until I can walk without the aid of prescription painkillers.
January 27, 201511 yr Anybody in the market for a 54cm, entry level road bike? http://www.amazon.com/Bikes-Royal-16-Speed-Road-Bicycle/dp/B00LGYZOAA I prolly should remove it now that the price is back in the stupid range again but will leave it. Edited January 31, 201511 yr by Mister X
