June 2, 20188 yr Hehe. In order to avoid paying $3.40@ for some Wellwyn RC55s from Mouser for the Salas phono stage I built, I lucked out on some from element14 (Newark) or somewhere where I had to buy something like 12-15 of them (one off) but got them for $1@ or something like that. Other values of the same resistor were on the order of $1.25@ or so. I just wouldn't pay that price each. Edited June 2, 20188 yr by Pars
June 22, 20188 yr Stupid question. Now searching for tube socket for KGST, GG and BH. Lot's of options. Aside from the material they are made of (bakelite, ceramic, teflon), I'm stuck at terminal type. https://www.ebay.com/itm/301444050005 https://www.ebay.com/itm/301838302161 Are these gold pins really intended to be soldered into PCB? Will solder adhere to gold plated surface? Or better look for sockets with leaf terminals?
June 22, 20188 yr I´m using the same kind of socket (but I prefer bakelite). So far I have not had problems. You can solder them to the Pcb without problem (always when you have a powerful soldering iron, about 25 / 30W). I recommend that when you solder them to the plate, you have a valve inserted. This will keep everything aligned.
June 23, 20188 yr These are similar to the pins we use on the Stax sockets so not a problem to solder to them.
June 23, 20188 yr Thank you jose and spritzer. Thanks for the hint to have valve inserted. I usually do the same when soldering Mill-Max DIP sockets in order to prevent pins from moving when socket plastic is heated.
July 28, 20187 yr I need to make/buy some very short and soft (5-10cm) USB cables. Any suggestions? Edited July 28, 20187 yr by lkong
July 28, 20187 yr Can anyone give me the guidelines for drawing the CMC octal socket? The diameter of the circle and pin diameter should suffice.
July 28, 20187 yr the Teflon drifts a bit. So the diameter is .716 inch and the hole size is 81th have not found a socket that does not fit or fits tight yet.

Thank you! I'm trying to push the boundaries around spacing a pair of EL34 output tubes pretty close to each other. It seems standard minimum recommendation is spacing of 1.5 times the envelope diameter. The EL34 is 33.3mm and I'd like to space them 1" apart (2" center-to-center). What about rotating one 90 degrees of the other, or another specific orientation, as the heat dissipation patterns are directional, I'd think. Do you have any guidance on positioning, assuming I'd like to get them pretty close together - like you see on Atma-Sphere, etc?
September 9, 20187 yr Does anyone know where can I get blanking plates for IEC inlet holes? I found blanking plates for XLR is pretty common but I can't find any info for IECs. Do they even exist? Attached is the blanking plate for XLR
September 9, 20187 yr I have never seen any, but that doesn't mean they don't exist. I would be doubtful though - Neutrik makes the blanking plates because you can get pre-punched 19" rack panels for Neutrik D-series jacks where there may be more holes than you need and so the blanking plates are handy for keeping dust out etc.. I can't imagine many cases where there are many more IEC-holes in an enclosure than you need ? Edited September 9, 20187 yr by UFN stupid autocorrect...
September 9, 20187 yr ^ This. Plus the Neutrik blanking panels are for a known standard jack series. I don't know if there is a standard IEC hole size (it seems that most of mine are all over the map), but that might make it more difficult to find. I know a lot of the chinese vendors on ebay, etc. all sell cases with the IEC cutout (presumably to a standard size), so perhaps someone does make some.
September 9, 20187 yr Or just put in the IEC socket anyway and use a plug Edited September 9, 20187 yr by cspirou
September 10, 20187 yr Thanks everyone. I've discussed this with some friends and we all agreed its very uncommon if they exist at all. My case already has IEC mounting hole but I'll be using external PSU. I'm planning to just cut a rectangle out of some plastic/acrylic/pcb, sand & spray, then mount from the inside.
October 11, 20187 yr Not able to find PZTA06 transistors in stock to complete a Dynalo mini build, anyone have any tips on where to look? Ebay seems to be only place to get them, not sure if reliable - https://www.ebay.com/itm/9PCS-PZTA06-TRANSISTOR-GP-NPN-80V-SOT-223/372271869750?hash=item56ad21ef36:g:vmQAAOSw9hJbVyi8:rk:5:pf:0
October 11, 20187 yr Yeah, those seem to be a problem to find right now. I don’t know that I would trust anything from eBay. How many do you need? I may have enough that I could spare some.Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk

November 18, 20187 yr Currently sourcing parts for a KGSSHV, using a BOM I got from spritzer (don't know who made it). Have been able to find most stuff, my main problem is the 130V zener (625-Z4KE130-E3 on mouser), the 3N254-E4/51 (currently EOL and minimum order of 120, which is more than I'll need in a lifetime probably), and the 1000pf/1000V cap. I found the 562R10TSD10 as a possible replacement for the cap, would that one be fine? For the 2 others I can't find anything that looks like a good replacement. Any help is appreciated.
November 18, 20187 yr This 130V zener works just fine: 863-1N5952BRLG You can use this 833-2KBP06-BP instead of the 3N254 562R10TSD10 will be just fine.
December 24, 20187 yr is there a reliable source for 2SJ109BL ? I need 2 Edited December 24, 20187 yr by sbelyo
December 24, 20187 yr 2SJ109BLs are a tough ask (for genuine ones). You could use singles (2SJ74 or Linear equivalents), or the Linear duals with some lead manipulation. Maybe: https://www.diyaudio.com/forums/swap-meet/320192-toshiba-2sj109bl.html This guy... maybe: https://www.ebay.com/itm/Matched-quad-of-2SK389BL-2SJ109BL-100-original-and-genuine-Toshiba-015-idss9-9/282424664232?epid=593519663&hash=item41c1d260a8:g:2-oAAOSwuxFYtUc~:rk:3:pf:1&frcectupt=true
December 24, 20187 yr Thanks Pars... I sent the diyaudio person a PM. There was a US seller on ebay that had them listed for a while now and of course hasn't relisted them in a month. I'll see what happens
