The folks on reddit suggest getting a demo of your candidate machines to aid the decision process.

I felt obligated to post this.

Drinking Onyx Coffee Lab's Columbia Jairo Arcila Lychee.  No....just no.

I literally just wrote Onyx.  First time in over two decades of making coffee that I very much felt the need to provide the feedback.

I believe they added actual lychees during the fermentation process and the result is I will likely toss the remaining beans in the bin.  WTH?!?

Save yourselves....LOL.

One of our neighbors has a Columbian wife, and has started a coffee company using her family's farm.

So we said put us down for a bag when you get started.

This week one was hand delivered to our door.

Joanne said we should reserve it as a weekend treat.

James Hoffmann bought one of David Lynch's old coffee makers (an Italian Velox Ferrara Minibar design from the 1960s and 70s):

That was fun.  I was belly laughing at one point.

I have owned my Chemex a long while.  The quality of the filters finally has me considering other options...they just don't drain like they did years ago and I'm tired of messing with it.

I'm considering a couple of drip machines.  We have relatively low counters in our old house so a Technivorm, as an example, isn't a good option.

Looking at the Wilfa Performance and the Ration Six Series 2.  Any thoughts or recommendations before I jump in?

Thanks...

HS

I have used the Aiden since it was released. I like it, seems to be a bit dependent on the right sized filters to not mess with the shower head. It makes good morning coffee and oddly exceptional “cold brew”

Ordered an Aiden and a couple of different sized filters.

I tend to make coffee for myself and occasionally the lady that helps us with the house, unless we have a gathering.  I think the Aiden will be well suited to my needs and counter space...it will displace the Chemex and sit next to my Niche Zero.

Any filters that have worked well for you, luvdunhill?

Thanks!

Sam

Cool!

I like the La Cabra Fellow Aiden Paper - not sure if it’s someone else’s that they resell but it fits perfectly. I do fold them on the seam but not sure that’s needed.

i use both the single brew and the batch shapes.

Good info...thank you!

Funny aside:  I had another box of Chemex filters.   It looks like I had a bad batch....used one from the new box and coffee was drama free....

Looks like I needed an excuse for a new toy :)

@luvdunhill in case you find this of use.  It is a summary of brew profiles by brand / specific coffee that I found on reddit.

If you click on one of the coffees it takes you to a Fellow site where you can use your camera over the scan code and it will  populate the brew profile on your Fellow Aiden app directly.  Up to you whether you want to save, alter or discard.

Pretty nifty as I was able to find several of the coffees I purchase from Intelligensia and Onyx.

The pressure gauge looks like one I used for fuel pressure on a 2009 Challenger I tracked for years.  Love it!

I'm not ready for a new espresso machine as the Lelit Bianca I bought some years ago is still doing a great job, but I found an announcement from Fellow interesting.  I bought a Fellow Aiden I have been enjoying thanks to @luvdunhill , and have been receiving Fellow marketing emails.

Here is an early review for the curious.  I have to admit it piqued my interest, particularly how quickly it heats up.  Looks like it can be bought for $1200 with an early discount and they toss in a credit for coffee beans.

I “finally” upgraded my espresso grinder. Niche Duo with SSP MP. I wouldn’t say my espresso tastes any different, but the Niche Zero will sell on eBay fine. Pour over is greatly improved over the Niche Zero. Makes it worth it. Especially since the Zero will sell fine.

Edited by EdipisReks1

If anybody was wondering how much larger the Duo was than the Zero. The answer is “a lot,” but also “not that much.”

Well, after 6 years my Niche Zero appears to be giving up the ghost.  The electric motor got hung up grinding 20 grams of espresso beans.

I took it apart, cleaned it well and reassembled...same thing.  I tried pour over beans just for grind and it's the same...the motor appears to have weakened to the point it needs to be replaced.

I prefer to have one grinder that does both my regular (machine / pour over) and espresso beans.

Any recommendations for a high quality grinder...preferably of the low maintenance variety like the Niche has been.

Thanks!
