  1. Started by Chekhonte,

When you burn a cd from a cd is there a loss of fidelity? A friend of mine who is a questionable source said that there is but couldn't back up his claim with anything but "I read it somewhere". I'm thinking about backing up my library on CDR this week and wondering if loss of fidelity is a problem and if there is a way to prevent it. I currently can't hear any difference but my ears are constantly learning (or arguably hallucinating) new things all the time. I don't want to do it if a few years from now I can hear the difference between the two. Thanks, Aaron

Hooleee shit, best hip hop album of the year so far for me Definitely less eclectic than Phrenology which makes it a bit less interesting in parts, but still a very solid album. Maybe it's just because I'm really into it right now, but it's almost Things Fall Apart quality

Digital Music Streaming Startup tunesBag Releases Desktop Application It looks interesting and I signed up for an account but haven't loaded anything on yet. Gotta wonder about the legality of this though. I suppose if you really want to have a streaming music server of your files it's safer to DIY it and stay off the radar.

I have never listened to Stravinsky but want to. Some of my favorite composers are 20th century composers and Stravinsky is almost always spoken of with high regard. The problem is that I don't know where to start. What pieces do you like a lot or what do you think I should start with?

  9. Started by justin,

The past couple years just before the CanJam I've placed an order for ~10 CDs at Acoustic Sounds to have some more high quality stuff to show off the gear. And it never fails that Norah Jones is still the only CD anyone wants to put in. So, I'm looking for some suggestions this time. Really well recorded stuff in a variety of genres, must be good music and not just impressive sound, and SACD is a major plus

  10. I have been listening to some Flim & the BB's albums lately, not my usual preferred type of music, but I did enjoy it a lot. Music is very nice and production is very 80's, but recording quality itself was so fricking cool. Dynamic range on my original CD from the 80's is very impressive, it can go from very soft to explosive in a split second and shows what a good setup can do. I have a few other CDs like that, like some Russian choir recording, but not a lot. Any suggestion for good music with wild very dynamic recording? Binaural and extremely dynamic would be even better

  12. So, a friend of mine came across an artist recently that has really grabbed my attention. I know it's a bit way off the beaten path, but I'm enjoying it so much I just had to pass it along. And lets face it, most music like this doesn't exactly discover itself! Emilie Autumn She's a classically trained violinist who specialized in boroque pieces. She pretty much abandoned her classical career by the age of 18. She started her own label, releasing one boroque solo-violin album, On A Day... before developing a sound she describes as "Victoriandustrial" and her look as "Punktorian." Both seem quite fitting. A little bit of harpsichord, a little bit of violin wit…

  13. All of the sudden I have become very interested in the Pre-Beethoven composers. It started with Bach's Mass In B-Minor (Gardiner) and moved on some of Haydn's symphonies (Sir Colin Davis). Beyond that all I have is whatever Mozart and Bach shows up on the Living Stereo releases. So any classical period or even earlier stuff you could recommend would be wonderful. I'm looking for specific recording recommendations, rather then "get mozart's 40th" type recommendations. Here is a small wish list I've compiled from various sources: Amazon.com: Jack Johnson: Classical Period Thanks!

I've read that teaching is very important to her and that she didn't want to tour to finish school, but this is crazy coming weeks after the release of Illumination. The album has the band poised for some success considering it's their most accessible album IMO. I'll be curious to see what becomes of the band without her and Morten, and if she'll go on to do something on her own or with others. I figured it was worth mentioning here with how many spins Illumination has gotten recently. [edit] News from here [/edit]

I know nothing about classical music. I've picked up the following albums over the last few years at local record sales thinking I would try to get into classical. I've been listening to the local classical station and I'm trying to get into it but it's a bit overwhelming. Anyway, I'm curious if what I have is good in terms of whether those of you that are into classical would say, that's a great, good, bad, whatever version. I hope that makes sense.
