I've been listening to a lot of concertos while studying for the CPA exam. Generally I think my rock brain can handle compositions with a focus on a single instrument more easily than I can handle symphonies or even chamber music. I can latch on to that violin/piano/cello/whatever and let it be my guide. Care to recommend your most listened to concerto recordings? Pics or links or whatever. Either I can then buy it or be like "yeah I have that one its awesome". Composer doesn't matter. Thanks!

I've really been getting into Multichannel SACD's and DVD-A's lately. Too bad they're all pretty much dead formats. And many of my favorites are out of print, and going for insane prices on fleaBay and such. Captain Hindsight says, you should've bought them when they were first out to begin with! The MP3 download that comes with the new Ryan Adams LP (Cardinology) has leadin/out groove and surface noise effects. Maybe I don't get out enough or something, but this strikes me as pretty strange. There must be a story behind it. Does anybody know? -Carl

We all complain about sibilant gear, but microphones and associated gear can put the sibilance right on the source, so tell me about some of your ...erm... favorites? I'll tell you why I'm asking later. Doesn't matter if the music is good or bad, I'm more interested in the acoustic properties of the recordings.

Hey there any Mule fans, I picked up a copy of Deepest End this weekend (2 disc live + Dvd) - wow. For some reason I have never really given them a good listen and now am kicking myself for skipping them when they were in town last go round. Anyway, I am going to pick up more. Any recommendations as to what my next purchase should be? Thanks!

One nice example from where I live: Musique du faubourg - Accueil I'm often too busy (read lazy) to go and spend time looking for CDs on location.... Thinking about buying a copy of Metallica's S&M CD, noticed there is both a normal US release and a Japanese SHM-CD release. Never seen SHM-CD before, so no idea if it is worth the extra money. Is it different mastering, or just some sham to get more money out of folks? The actual encoding cant be all that different, unless they dont care about backwards compatibility.
