  1. Went to my twin niece's & nephew's B'Nail Mitzvah's yesterday, very nice to see some extended family. Got lots of updates, and "lowdates" on an uncle not in good health, and some nasty family in-fighting with some not-seen-often relatives. Sad..... My son was chatting with me as we picked up the car, he says, "Dad....don't tell this to mom....I got a girl's phone number at the party...." Apparently she was one of the cuter girls according to Andrew (I don't know who she is/was), but they'd been texting a bit even while at the party. Unfortunately, she's in the town where my sister lives, a good 45+ minutes away. Andrew has had more "friends" who are girls in the last couple years, but this seems to be the first real interest. And so it starts.....!

  2. I intended to spend the day cleaning up the yard, taking garbage to the dump, and entertaining the kids. Instead, the cattle broke out and headed for the hills, so I spent ~3 hours wrangling them back into the right pasture. We have a new rent-a-bull, and he's the strangest thing. The dogs and I were pushing the herd forward, as we do, and the fucking bull was at the front of the herd, going back and forth, putting his head down and chasing the goddamned cows back toward us. He did that the entire fucking time, so it was always two steps forward, one step back, even with three good herding dogs working with me. Anyway, it was fine. The weather was nice, the cattle took me on a nice walk through some parts of our land I haven't visited in awhile, and I got some exercise. I wish I knew my mushrooms, because we have never had so many coming up as we do right now.

  5. Just returned from a regional fencing tournament held at Cal Tech in Pasadena. Three and a half hours in a gym with no air conditioning, temperature in the gym is 90 degrees with what must have been 80 percent humidity. The drive back through the valley was a pleasant- I can't decide if I should drink a nice Sauvignon Blanc, shoot heroin, or just butt chug grain alcohol.

  7. Tom Waits map. This could prove to be a considerable time waster, to anyone who has spend a quarter century listening to Tom. Not that I know anyone like that.

Just realized that I need to talk to him more about sexting now, though We did that last year when he got his Smartphone, but not since.....

  9. Should be OK, as long as the computer supports it. We haven't had any trouble with my son's 2009 MBP for what that is worth.

  10. This is my third Apple laptop with some issues - first one had wifi adapter/logic board issues, second one something with GPU until I accidentally dropped it, and now this early 2011 MBP. I don't think I'll be buying another one since it's looking like my work will be providing me with an Apple laptop for next several years. I'll just build myself a Lightroom/iTunes box on the cheap for home. Oh, and that 2008 MBP issue was with ATI chip, which may be why it got fixed.

  11. Melody and I started watching "Enlightened" on HBO GO the other night, anyone watch this? Took me two episodes but I really started to enjoy it. I'm not sure exactly how the series wants the audience to view its characters (which is part of what makes it so interesting), especially the lead, who is really masterfully played by Laura Dern, but here's my view on the plot anyway. Basically a woman who is full of anger and totally self-absorbed goes to a very new-agey hippie "rehab" of sorts in hawaii to get a hold of her anger/depression, and comes back to the real world and finds its really, really hard to apply those principles you learned to real life. Especially when you are still full of anger and totally self-absorbed. Pretty awesome show so far, we watched 4 episodes last night I think. Touching at times, laugh out loud funny at times, frustrating at times.

  13. I think it would be cool to offer the same lossy streaming, but when storing a track locally, an option to download the track in lossless.

  14. Sorry on phone, trying to keep data down but they were superb. A few minor quibbles but aside from those, everything else was outstanding.

  16. ^ Jealous. Know I'm late to the game on this one, but was at the company "tech stop" on a computer issue today and tried a Note 3 to see how large a 5.5"-ish screen was in the hand. Fuck it's huge.
