  5. Knucks, that blows. If you're not Walmart, doing business nowadays is just torture. I just bought the smallest bag of Halloween candy I could find. I couldn't bring myself to buy something that I can't stand (which was what Bonnie recommended), so if we have the same miserable lack of ghouls and goblins that presented last year, I'll be eating to many mini Reeses.

  7. Only took 8 months, but I finally picked up a chair. Ended up with the Aeron, again. This time I went armless as I am tired of my headphone cable constantly getting tangled, and of not being able to scoot under the desk..

  8. This thread took a different turn... Anyway, my only KGST is in use right now so I just grabbed the nearest plate to my desk, a mini HV: A few of the holes are crooked but they are all there for airflow so I'm not that bothered.

  9. Technically, the primary food of baleen whales is krill, but plankton feeds the teeny-weeny fishies.

  10. Perhaps you need more time to adjust to real high fidelity sound. I used to love listening to live 5 piece jazz combos playing trad and dixie. The I'd go home and listen to my setup and look for the cues in the live performances that grabbed me. It certainly helped to lay down what real should sound like. Few people have really conxentrated on what things should sound like. People complain about pianos being too bright in the highs, That's what they sound like in real life. To use an analogy, some think that all sonic scenery should look like a lush Swiss mountain meadow on a bright sunny day. It's not like that in overcast conditions. This idea that just because it sounds good, it's hi-fi is a furphy. Hi-fi means great sounds great, good sounds good and rotten sounds rotten.

  11. Did up the house for a Halloween party on Saturday. Placed poorly in the pub quiz. Resisted the urge to buy HD600s.

  13. Lots of awesomeness in this thread ... Baguette's great speaker rig ... Shelly's BHSE, and the swell advice on shelf clearance ... Grahame and Jo's trip to the Auld Sod, and hookup with the tall man ... Chris @ midwest Lagunitas heaven (jealous) ... The reappearance of Fitz (not unlike my own) ... But the winner is definitely (drum roll, please) Tyler, Ann Marie, and little Kora ... May the family be reunited soon, Tyler. Happy trails.

  14. Put speakers on stands, put rack back in place. Should have a new dac tomorrow, so this is the last time I'll have the sony in my system I guess. My power cords are too short to put my conditioner on the bottom rack which is annoying. I noticed that for some reason my speakers dont have bass boost or eq knobs as detailed in the online manual. I never intended on using them, but is still surprising. 3am whisper volume right now. Playing around with positioning since the manual says to use a triangle which I never bothered with before. I put 3 layers of neoprene shop pads between each speaker. Carpet pad in reverse direction underneath each stand to maneuver into place as needed. Can't 'hear' the stands yet, which is good. But volume is very low at the moment. I dont think I'm going to paint or cover the stands, I like the current look. Glad this is finally in place. *edit* I forgot to post a picture of the inside of the stands earlier.
