  1. Hmmm I don't think I removed the loop out on any of ones I've done. Pop the hood and I'd know... In other news, as the SR-Omega owners know all to well...there are no more replacement earpads and the old ones are pretty much awful. Any set with the stock ones will be mimicking a block of wood by now and the replacements Stax used to sell were pretty fucked as they were just wrong. First of all they were black and then the dimensions were also wrong. They are all gone now as well so what to do... Well take a crusty set of earpads and re-engineer some new ones with the company that is making the earpads for my headphone project. Now they are real leather with memory foam. They are also thicker as they are much softer and the opening was made smaller to control the bass issues if the SR-Omega. Now this is the just the first prototype but what an utter fucking pain in the ass to install. I've sourced the pins Stax used and I'll order some new mounting rings for the next batch but yeah, not easy to install. Something I'm not sure can be changed but we'll see. Here they are mounted to the headphones: Yup, the "old" earpads are new old stock but mine won't last forever. Now how does it sound...bloody brilliant and they are so much more comfortable. Some more listening to be done on my part but some of my issues with the SR-Omega have been greatly diminished.

  4. Anyone who's a fan of the Ænima album really should get to one of the shows this tour. Third Eye live was mind-boggling good. Maynard stepped up and they played The Pot as well, which is a rarity in recent years. Waited a long time to see them, absolutely worth it.

  5. Harmonic just means integer multiples of the fundamental frequency, whether they are odd or even. If you really want to get into musical harmony, the perfect fifth is not an even multiple of the fundamental with an interval ratio of 3:2 and neither is the major third, which is an interval ratio of 5:4. Even order harmonics represent octaves, which strengthen the fundamental which may or may not even be present, giving a larger than life ringing tone. A combination or Tartini tone is most commonly produced using a fundamental and its fifth, in which a common subharmonic is heard psychoacoustically. Overtones are any frequencies above the fundamental frequency. tl;dr solid state haters need to seek haven somewhere else.

  7. Before I got the Wolf oven/cooktop, I used a single burner cheap thing. Worked great. make sure you try a magnet on the pans you plan on using, some kinds of stainless pans are non magnetic and will not work. also they use 80% of the power of a typical kitchen circuit, so you can't use most other things at the same time

  8. This is the only set I have now but the plan is to have more made and keep a few around should people need them. They are not cheap though... Nothing terrible but my DIY phones project is running into silly money... In terms of the presentation, it is pretty much the same as the stock pads. They have so little padding that it made sense to make thicker pads and have them compress more. This is what Stax did with the 007's so it carries nicely onto these. There is maybe a smidge more bass control with these but it's hard to say. The bass is still a bit loose and the treble can bite a bit so regular SR-Omegas to these ears.

  11. The expert looking at the BHSE should be able to find the problem. Did he/she check unloaded vs loaded voltages, pre-reg and post-reg voltages, etc? If not, he/she is not an expert. From 2 seconds of googling images it looks like the BHSE power supply is the original version power supply with BJT current source, or similar.

  12. Wow, you waited 27 whole minutes before complaining you hadn't heard back from Justin. Have you emailed him or called him at his business number to ask him about your problem? I'm not sure he hands out the schematic for his proprietary amp -- maybe he does or others have it -- but calm the fuck down and approach this like you would with any electronic product you have purchased.

  13. I would definitely choose the MacBook Pro (I have the 13" Touch Model) because the iPad does not fully multitask, cannot run Windows as a virtual device and there are still a lot of things I do that are better/easier with a mouse. The caveat here is that this is based upon my iPad Air since my iPad Pro order is still processing. If this changes with the new iPad I will update here.

  14. It was actually very easy to rebuild the large T2 with the DC/DC converters. Used same daughter board layout as for as for my modified T2, only had to move one hole 50th. I also have plenty of space since I only use one and not three output transistors and I found some nice spots for the daughter boards. One channel has the DC/DC converters and the other the newly made 01N100D/LT1021 boards. Both channels seem to work OK. Below: Daughter boards with LT1021 and 01N100D on heat sink. Boards with DC/DC converters and LT3045. Now it's late, done for today.

  15. Finally got my stat cherry properly popped. Previously listened to a SR-202 from that small Stax amp and it didn't do much for me. Lambda Nova from SRM-1/MK2 sounds really good and bass is actually there.

  16. Yeah, zero reason to buy the garbage can Mac Pro anymore. That new iMac Pro will be pretty sweet for people who can take advantage of that type of hardware in their workflows. The $5k starter price is a big ask, but that is the price you pay when you jump from Intel's "Core" platform up to "Xeon" with its ECC memory. I'm psyched as hell for the high refresh rate on the new iPad Pro. I've made the jump to high-refresh rate monitors on my desktops and now I can never go back. I'll have to see one in person before I make the jump, but if lives up to the promise there might be a 1st gen iPad Pro up for sale soon :).
