  1. On the grill so technically grilling, right?

  2. Tandoori lamb chops. Hot and fast is recommended, as I always tell the ladies.

  3. And yet still more manly than my lack of the grilling gene. Though I did date a guy named Gene once.

  4. That spelling is what attracted him in the first place! Playback Designs says it is a combination of Swiss - German engineering and American entrepreneurship so how can you go wrong? I still really like my Playback Designs DAC -- especially for DSD but also for PCM -- and they have a fancy new line that is not out yet as far as I can tell. Here are links for the current one and a press release for the new one: http://positive-feedback.com/audio-discourse/impressions-playback-designs-merlot-quad-dsd-dac-syrah-music-server-brief-notes-pinot-quad-dsd-adc/ http://positive-feedback.com/industry-news/playback-designs-dream-series-quad-dsd-dac-transport/

  6. Tacos at the home base of my favorite taco truck in the city, which sadly lost it's spot a block from my office. El Camion is a bit of a walk, but not too bad a ride. They messed up my order on the high side, I only ordered 5.

  9. There is no short supply of people with more money than sense. Some of these people cannot even tell when the left and right speakers are wired out of phase from each other. The only way they know to "judge" good gears from bad is by looking at price tags and reading BS reviews. Plenty of companies out there with little pride in their products know this well and are more than happy to exploit this phenomenon.

  10. Wow! I can only imagine what type of meat you will be grilling at that temp. Bordeaux would seem to be the obvious choice when grilling at the temperature of hell.

  11. It's serving me the absolute shittest ads, too -- Save at Macys! Fix your credit! Get a community college degree! I'm seriously fucking embarrassed that this is what some algorithm thinks of me.

  12. Stripped the huge LS decals, cleaned and re-finished the frame, and it got new ones, a new head badge, new cassette and chain. Since I stripped down the bottle cages to refinish the frame, changing pedals, I decided to go weight weeny and put it on the scale. The wheels are actually not particularly light. 13. So Brent really did fill your Lynskey frame with lead shot? I thought he was kidding.

  14. I don't know if I would trust Weiss. If they can't correctly spell analog, what kind of job are they going to do converting to it?

  15. Giving up on Devialet due to their resolutely French customer service and upgrade policies. Not interested in Danish hobbyists or American Schiitheads. Thinking about giving the Swiss a shot ...

  17. Good advice. I'd also add "anything you hear." * Particularly at Spuyten Duyvil.

  18. At least that means it's not smart enough to know very much about you, which I think is comforting. I get a lot of ads for Asian dating apps, not really sure what that's all about. A guy I met during jury duty told me how he blocks stuff on Windows without an Ad Blocker. https://www.entrepreneur.com/article/274965 I think there is a hosts file for Macs as well. He also gave me a lot of life advice, and ended it with something along the lines of "Don't trust anything you read."

  20. my soekris 1541 arrived, the knob is a bit wonky - it's misaligned, scrapes against the faceplate for a portion of its rotation. luckily it only matters for the headphone connection. need to listen more but it's not bad so far. one advantage it has over the yggdrasil is that it's like 1/10 the size

  21. I love mine. Don't know about the earlier pre-production models but the one I have exhibits only a slight "closed chamber" soundstage, what I mean by that is that you will immediately notice you're listening to a closed headphone if you came from living with a great open one like I did, or you compare side by side. It is, imho, not distracting once you get used to it. That is a huge praise for a closed can, as I've never heard one I even really liked before. But just like Tyll put it, with the foam inserts these are darn well balanced with controlled bass and no immediate annoyances anywhere even as you go up in the treble. Just a very nice, "right" sounding headphone that also happens to be really solid and lighweight. It doesn't resolve quite like my STAX but because it isolates well, it brings out details in low-level ambient noise that would easily be obscured with the STAX. It's nice to sit on the balcony in the summer and get some sweet tunes. Not that we get much of summer in Sweden...
