Thanks guys! Had a pretty good day. It is my last week at my current job; my boss took me out for lunch to a more upscale Mexican place in Wheaton and we had a couple of margaritas and too much lunch. Kind of funny when you get along really well with a boss 30 years your junior... my Raleigh is 12 years older than he is . He was a big reason why taking the new job was such a tough decision, although the new boss seems like a good guy, and the company makes up for many of the current ones shortcomings. And got out for a short ride (6 mi) with my youngest son just before dark. Sipping the usual (Lil Sumpin'), so life is good.6 points

Hey my good Sirs! I've been absent for a long time again w/o saying anything. Sorry about that. So... Not all the things happened today but, I got a really good job offer from a chemical company from my home town. I quit the job. I'm moving back to my hometown earlier than expected, in early june. My boss asker me to quit early even if i told them I'm going to quit at early august but, they are covering rent of 2 months. So all is ok. At last I'm getting away from here. Moar Cat photos and recipes are coming soon! @Dusty Chalk can i get my title back, my good sir?2 points

Thanks, but it's not impressive either. You only need; A "portable" GRLV (Or rather three GRLV ) Four CFA´s: And Unbal/Bal boards: At the last moment I decided to add a phono preamp (a VSPS) for MM and a capacitative buffer. With a knob you can select the line inputs (one XLR, two SE and one SE for the phono preamp). With the other knob you can select from where you want to send the output signal; directly from the unbal / bal, from unbal / bal + Cap buffer or put the mute. Unfortunately I have not been able to finish the preamp yet. I need to finish Diamond buffers. I have also been working on lighting the volume control.1 point

That mouthhole stopper looks removable. I am not sure what that says about me that that's the first thing I noticed. And I don't know how to feel about either of the above two statements.1 point

Well... I dug out the screwdrivers... Sorry for the crappy pictures, I just had the iphone to hand. First off, the true quality Stax plug: So that disk there normally sits flush with the plug as the pins are too long. They had that problem with the Jade so nothing has changed in a decade... Pure class. It is also incredibly crude. Funny how King Sound could make a ribbon cable and a proper plug at 1/8th the price... Speaking off the cable, you can barely make out the loose wires in there when I press it together. Here's the earpads...well one of them. They are pretty comfy but they do stink quite badly. No expense spared here... I did order some new pads to try out. Here is the baffle and the cable entry. The latter seems to not be molded around the cable so I might be able to remove this cable and put in a proper ribbon. Very long screws... They go all the way to the back of the housing which is plastic and has nice metal inserts. Now the baffle is off and it has this nice rubber gasket to maintain baffle seal. Now we can see the cable and the metal frame which provides the bulk of the assembly. Here is the back of the protective mesh. These are not the stators so why Hifiman uses this in the promo's as the stators is beyond me... Another gasket here which is good. Here we have the driver. There is a protective mesh but it is odd. It's not a solid sheet but some sort of a porous membrane. Copper mesh stators and the pitch is very fine. Finally the back of the drivers and the second protective mesh. You can also see the plastic frame which holds it all together. The drivers are glued together so I didn't want to mess with them more at this time. One funny thing, the cables inside the cups are really long. Like 10cm even though they would need only about 2cm or so... Over all, I'm impressed by the build quality. It's not Stax quality but they are getting better. I eagerly wait for the Mk2 version next month...1 point

Spent the past few days reading/rereading this thread. One of the more informative and entertaining threads I've ever read on headcase. Bought my HD800 from justin about a month ago. I love 'em. Not much more I can say other than what others have said. It shows you what is in the recording, nothing more, nothing less. Some people don't like the highs, I actually love the highs. Sounds very "pro audio" instead of "hi fi" if that makes any sense. Some rock recordings are just bright. A drumstick cracking a cymbal is just bright. Some guitarists tone is just really shrieking bright. Is that necessarily pleasant to listen to? No, but whether or not you enjoy that unpleasantness depends on what your goal in this crazy hobby is. I get excited when I'm hearing exactly what is in that recording. If I just want the sound to be revealing but fun, I'll listen to my speakers. so gs-x mk2 or whatever ECP audio dreams up next? tell me what to do headcase.1 point

I don't have allergy to RSA amps, I just happen to not like 20% THD from a headphone amp. Kinda defeats the purpose of one when all it does is limit volume and add distortion. The HD800 is picky but being used to the SR-007Mk1 I can't say that it's a bad thing. They simply need a good, stable amp to drive them which can handle the quirky impedance behavior. Now this excludes 95% of the amps out there so people swing the other way and use badly designed garbage such as the Alo Studio Six and Leben to mask what they find offensive in the transducers character. One could argue that this is defeating the point of buying them in the first place though... It's the same crap as with the 009, so many think that simply adding distortion will fix what they find wrong with the transducers.1 point

This is the problem of not being in it for the money, the will to do something new always outweighs the will for more money.1 point

V2 changes, anodized black frame, pad angle increased, and replace cable sleeving for annoying rubber tubing. 1k added to price for these improvements...0 points
