  3. This reminded me of an exercise/experiment I went through with mypasswordis (we also consulted with Kerry) two years ago. I was hoping to figure out what's the highest, stable regulated voltage I can get from the GRHV with the Antek transformer I was using (300VA/325v rated). The short answer is that it's very load-dependent. See the measured data I copied from my PMs with mypasswordis. The GRHV was setup to deliver 426VDC rails when these measurements were taken. We never got to the bottom of this whole thing but I ultimately return my GRHV to regulate to 400VDC rails. Notice the pre-reg voltage is quite low when the power supply is loaded. This is the part that still confuses me. Maybe mypasswordis, Kerry and others will chime in. secondary ac (Antek 300VA/325v) pre-reg V at bleeder resistor regulated output current draw No load 332v/332v +461V/-461V +426V/-426V HV Carbon 326v/326v +431V/-430V +426V/-425V 97mA/101mA Blue Hawaii 318v/316v +422V/-414V +416V/-408V 81mA/147mA

  4. As far as recommendations go, I have this and it has served me very well since I got it. It isn't fancy but it gets the job done without having a gigantic footprint. https://www.amazon.com/Baratza-Encore-Conical-Coffee-Grinder/dp/B007F183LK/ref=sxin_3_osp20-7b9ffe7e_cov?ascsubtag=7b9ffe7e-af5a-42c1-a420-c5f672be97b6&creativeASIN=B007F183LK&crid=1BTC39MZLV4IT&cv_ct_cx=baratza&cv_ct_id=amzn1.osp.7b9ffe7e-af5a-42c1-a420-c5f672be97b6&cv_ct_pg=search&cv_ct_wn=osp-search&keywords=baratza&linkCode=oas&pd_rd_i=B007F183LK&pd_rd_r=c4d83c6f-8982-44d7-b8ac-a6879cfa4353&pd_rd_w=vhvI0&pd_rd_wg=DL2iK&pf_rd_p=e1262d27-368d-44f1-a337-220e1af8b014&pf_rd_r=9NP35BJB6B4BKK2201XK&qid=1578764978&sprefix=burratz%2Caps%2C201&tag=bestcont06-20

  6. Moving Pictures side two is one of my favourite sides of any rock record ever. The only reason I don’t cite the whole album as my favourite is because classic rock radio kinda wore out —to me—all the big songs (including “Tom Sawyer” and “Limelight”), but “Red Barchetta” and “YYZ” are superb still. 2112 is another which is considered by many to be their best. A friend of mine recently Tweeted that it was their best “...full stop”. I love a lot of their albums—Hemispheres may be my current favourite. Although All the World’s a Stage still holds a special place in my heart because it was my first. I still want to cover “What You’re Doing” because of the version on that live album. “YYZ” and “La Villa Strangiato” are both worth a listen if you haven’t heard them.

  7. ground coffee starts losing flavor in about 10 minutes. You won’t see an advantage to switching to pour over if you also switch to pre-ground coffee.

  8. RIP Neil Peart. I was never inspired to play the drums by Neil Peart -- I mean, seriously, what's the point? He had already demonstrated that he's on another plane. But I was inspired to pursue things _thoughtfully_ -- he put so much thought into everything he did, that he was zen master/another plane/next level. Meticulous craftsman. I want to be that, I still do, and I am reminded of that by his passing. I will strive to better myself. New not-quite-new-year's resolution, in all pursuits.

  9. For me, with the golden reference hv connected to my modern blue hawaii via a variac the golden ref hv needs an *absolute* minimum of 315.5VAC at its AC input to regulate at 404.3VDC output. In normal use I have 330VAC input to the golden ref for 404.3V output.

  11. My roastery of choice will grind my coffee beans for me. I have to remind them that it’s coarse for French press, otherwise they grind it fine for Chemex (they sell Chemex) and the like.

  13. The One A woman meets a man in a bar. They talk; they connect; they end up leaving together.. They get back to his place, and as he shows her around his apartment. she notices that one wall of his bedroom is completely filled with soft, sweet, cuddly teddy bears. There are three shelves in the bedroom, with hundreds and hundreds of cute, cuddly teddy bears carefully placed in rows, covering the entire wall! It was obvious that he had taken quite some time to lovingly arrange them and she was immediately touched by the amount of thought he had put into organizing the display. There were small bears all along the bottom shelf. Medium-sized bears covering the length of the middle shelf. And huge, enormous bears running all the way along the top shelf. She found it strange for an obviously masculine guy to have such a large collection of Teddy Bears, She is quite impressed by his sensitive side. But doesn't mention this to him. They share a bottle of wine and continue talking and, after awhile, she finds herself thinking, 'Oh my God! Maybe, this guy could be the one! Maybe he could be the future father of my children?' She turns to him and kisses him lightly on the lips. He responds warmly. They continue to kiss, the passion builds. And he romantically lifts her in his arms and carries her into his bedroom. Where they rip off each other's clothes and make hot, steamy love. She is so overwhelmed that she responds with more passion, more creativity, more heat than she has ever known. After an intense, explosive night of raw passion with this sensitive guy, they are lying there together in the afterglow. The woman rolls over, gently strokes his chest and asks coyly, 'Well, how was it?' The guy gently smiles at her, strokes her cheek, looks deeply into her eyes, and says: 'Help yourself to any prize from the middle shelf.'

  16. Huh... I guess this THX technology business is not ALL hype after all. In my Holiday shopping binge, I couldn't resist buying the SMSL SP200 THX tech amp for measly $260 +tax. Boy, cheap headphone amps have come a long way since I was last into dynamic headphones years ago... Sennheiser HD600 with ALO cable sounding mighty fine burning in the amp.

  18. Half a year ago I promised to build a new original DIY T2. Now it’s done. After some difficulties with left channel and PSU she is playing as an original DIY T2 does!!! Thinking of retire and feeding ducks. No more modifications to an amplifier that can’t be improved. …never trust an addict

  21. http://www.stereophile.com/cdplayers/193/# Interesting read of Stereophile's first review of the new technology called 'Compact Disc'. Esp interesting to read about the incredible potential which was not quite fulfilled, but will be, the costs involved, and Doug Sax's and The Absolute Sound's concerns for poor sound quality. And of course, RIP, JGH ...
