  1. @TMoney The Free World update for Japan is ready for download on MS Flight Sim
  2. Helen Reddy. https://www.nytimes.com/2020/09/29/arts/music/helen-reddy-dead.html I remember my mom picking me up from Montessori school with Helen Reddy playing, loudly.
  3. Yikes, Al! The fires have been ridiculous. My mother was evacuated for nearly two weeks due to the Creek Fire in Central CA, she got to go home recently, but much of the area I grew up in burnt to the ground, including most of the town I had my first job in. It's pretty surreal seeing the Governor and Senator of California giving a press conference in front of the smoking remains of your elementary school playground, but such is 2020. Hope your sort-of-MIL comes through this OK. For as much burned in the Creek Fire, I was also amazed at how many homes they saved despite fire raging all around them.
  4. 1 point
Think I am going to need a shorter desktop mic stand.
  5. Had a Vodavi phone system at work that one of the station ports didn't work. Normally I wouldn't even bother trying a repair on one of these and just replace the unit, but lacking any working ones on the shelf, I decided to have a go at it... and somehow actually managed to fix it. 😲 Random picture of one off the internet for reference: I had to replace one of those little blue transformers, the thermistor beside it, and some smd components on the back of the board, with ones I salvaged off a different broken unit. It took a few passes to track down everything that was damaged, but now it works as it should. Yay.
  6. That time is now. The Soncoz LA-QXD1 I purchased is pure garbage, and I can't believe I ever thought it would be a good idea. It gibbers and pops constantly, loses sync whenever my AC condenser cycles on, and defaults to minimum volume every time it does so. The interface is inscrutable, and I had to find direct links to the driver downloads through the Wayback Machine (!!) because the manufacturer's site is currently down. I ended up just buying the thing I wanted in the first place, the RME dac.
  7. Sounds like your aim could use some work then.
  8. Finally made me to Northern Michigan five hours later than planned. Too much time in a mask but hopefully I was not infected because I was very careful and sat in my own row for both flights. šŸ¤žšŸ¼
  9. I missed you Fitz! This place is definitely better with you in it!
  10. Wow, good luck up there and look out for the air karens. You know they're coming next.
  11. When I lived in South Texas, I'd just set it outside for a minute.
  12. I'm pretty sure that I could do this for you on the Dremel Digilab that I have access to. Give me a dimensioned drawing of what you want and I might have some scrap plexy that we could try out first before. I should warn you, it might take me a while to get to it. I'm like Mikhail-levels of slow these days in getting projects. done. Speaking of project, COVID speaker project #2 is nearly complete.
  13. RIP Helen.... And just heard Mac Davis too....also 78 like Helen. I never realized he wrote In The Ghetto for Elvis.....
  14. Not a celebrity, but a great guy and unique character. I worked with Dan B for 3-4 years, he was a Project Manager in IT. Bright, outgoing, almost always a positive attitude but had a sarcasm streak a mile wide in smaller/more comfortable groups. I often use the Dr. Evil saying "How about NO, you crazy Dutch bastard) in reply to someone asking for something they won't get....that practice started with Dan when he embarrassingly asked me (on behalf of the business users) if we could change what we just worked on for almost 6 months so they could do it another way. I showed him that video clip, and we had a great laugh.... A bunch of us from that company (the survivors as we call ourselves) keep in touch via regular gatherings and now Zoom calls. Dan would always gently bow out (he was farther away, and often very busy). The first picture below is from a long-term friend, and the later one is more how I knew him. Not sure of cause yet....but still too young!! RIP Dan, another one of the good guys gone....
  15. My sort of mother in law (Claire's ex step mother and ongoing mother of Claire's half brother) had to evacuate from St Helena yesterday after much debate and delay. I looked at the CalFires map and the Glass Fire is extremely close to their home. There is a small hill between them but it has raged over much taller ones.
  16. I'm really sad the see the devastation these latest Napa and Sonoma County fires are causing. A lot of places I know are getting hit and I hope all the people made it out ok.
