  1. Jeff, the Purple Heart is really hard, and very prone to burning when cut and routed. Use a very sharp blade! As for me, got more work done on the Colossus stand.

  5. Construction is done, stretchers installed. The bottom stretcher strengthens the bottom shelf, strengthens the side structures from racking and stops the albums from being placed too far in the shelf. The top stretcher just helps with racking. Bottom of the butcher block top has recesses milled for the isolation feet. The isolation feet are the only connection between the base and the top. Top of the butcher block is stained, and the base has the first coat of Amber shellac. And leveling feet installed. The last picture of the base is right side up. Last thing to build is a riser for my motor pod. 3 3/4" tall.

  8. These are new to me, as they needed to be a litter bigger, as to not look lost under the 3" x 3" corner posts. I found them on Amazon. You can see them in the second pic, althought they're on top, because the base is inverted.

  13. The purple heart done properly is pretty nifty. I am speaking as a buyer not a builder...those with the skills here are those that make the good looking stuff I seek out. I have a thing for wood boxes. The wife calls it a problem...I refer to it as an opportunity... HS

  14. Yeah, talking about Steve’s comment about the Purple Heart being hard to cut. I am going to start with a dog toy chest tomorrow to figure out the domino thing.

  16. Word to the wise,if you have a restaurant with most of your business coming from take out, make sure you have a employee who is competent in English manning the phone taking orders. I just spent a ridiculous amount of time on the phone talking to an employee who does not speak english. I don't know if I ordered five hamburger dinners or a plate of pickles and goat cheese. WTF!

  17. Be sure and check out their community forum. It looks like it's pretty active. https://community.vcvrack.com/ Dusty, nope. At first glance, they seem very similar. I'm sure there's some comparisons on the web somewhere though. Another modular site that seems pretty popular (with folks who actually know something unlike myself) is Muff Wiggler. https://www.muffwiggler.com/forum/

  18. This was a great suggestion, Steve. I spent a few blissful hours twiddling knobs on VCV rack tonight and designing monosynths. Tomorrow’s project is figuring out how to wire it into Ableton and sync the clock so I can actually make some music and not just play basslines.

  21. I actually liked it, but it would have been much better in a Hank Williams voice. Especially since it was done to the beat of Your Cheatin' Heart.

  22. Going to try to make the hinged face out of strips this purple stuff. Maybe too heavy so may end up being the body.

  23. I'm not into Eurorack, but I did fool around with the one we had at college. You should check out VCV Rack. It's billed as a eurorack simulator. You can build and patch virtual modules which are designed by the guys that make the real modules. Lots of the modules are free and the paid ones are cheap (after all, they want you to buy the real things). Plenty of YT tutorial videos too. https://vcvrack.com/

  24. I soldered the surface mount components for a Universal Signal Isolator shield for the Arduino DUE. This will allow me to control my Buffalo DAC and add a TFT screen to it as well http://www.dimdim.gr/arduino/universal-signal-isolator-shield-for-the-arduino-due/

  26. I've been getting my mid 80s \m/ on. W.A.S.P. - W.A.S.P. (1984) W.A.S.P. - The Last Command (1985) W.A.S.P. - Inside The Electric Circus (1986) The first two are absolute classics of the genre (LA glam metal with just a dash of shock rock from the first half of the 80s.) Blackie Lawless has always been a bit of a clown, but on the first two WASP albums he managed to avoid self parody and had some remarkably consistent songwriting. Chris Holmes and Randy Piper had some great riffs as well. Inside The Electric Circus is a much more uneven affair. There are a more than few duds, but man is "Restless Gypsy" an unknown classic. Listening to it makes me want to comb out my mullet, don my uncomfortably tight high waisted jeans, fire up my Camaro Z28 and tear ass down the 101. I might cue up Live... In The Raw (1987) next. Sadly there's not much after that in the WASP catalog that's worth giving a listen. 80s metal was best before marketing departments got involved and WASP was never that versatile a band to begin with.

  30. Maine looks beautiful. Not quite GoT, but stumbled upon a holiday lights pre-December setup in a nearby park. You know the traditional Xmas terrifying dinosaurs show. Not quite the full effect mid-day and without speakers outputting screams.

  31. Thank you guys. Really I'm not worried about the surgery, but I'm pretty upset. This year Alex starts at our cycling school and I will not be able to accompany him.

  32. Visit my doctor. After a year, the wound in my abdomen has not closed ... wait, what? I have not trained with my team, I have not participated in the few races we have had, I have done shitty kilometers this year ... I have made no effort! Tomorrow they will give me an appointment to have surgery again. F**K

  33. Ended up having a very scary day. So a week ago Friday I called my broker and said "I need to pay [big bills]. Pls move [four digit sum of money] to my main bank account." On this past Monday, I wrote some checks, totaling about 2/3 of what I deposited. Then I paid off a few more bills. I noticed that my bank account was still showing the amount pre-deposit, but these transactions sometimes take an extra day to clear. Also, I knew that the checks I wrote on Monday wouldn't be cashed for a day or two. Then I got kind of ill. I have chronic digestive problems, and they acted up big time mid-late week. I actually had a horrible day Friday, but still managed to do a radio show I'm quite proud of, but I digress... That meant I wasn't doing much business for most of the week. Today I went out and did some light grocery shopping. One of the locations I frequent refused my ATM card, but that's not unusual. I have one of the new chip-encrusted cards, which offer greater security by not fucking working at least half the time. I paid my bill with a credit card and got on with my day. At my final stop, once again attempted used my ATM card, for like $40 in food. The cheerful clerk said I aid "insufficient funds." I said "uh oh" and paid with the same credit card. I stopped at the ATM, and instead of (based on my back of the napkin math) having a positive balance in the low four digits, I had a negative balance well into the three digit range. Somewhere along the way, somebody fucked up big time. I'd say most likely me, and it probably is, but in general I'm far better than that at managing money and I don't usually make $2500+ errors. Of course I can't do a single fucking thing about this until business hours on Monday. In between now and then I can ruminate on issues like ...did the transfer no go through? How many checks did I bounce this week? Is my broker drunk on the job? It's a good thing I don't have any hair to tear out.
