  1. Clark Gable signing autographs in 1958 in glorious Kodachrome

  2. My Mom grew up in Hollywood and went to Hollywood High School. When she and her sister were walking home from school one day, Gable was sitting in his Auburn Cord at the Goodyear store. My Aunt shouted "Hey Clark!" to which he turned and replied,.. "Well, hello girls." My Mom and Aunt screamed all the way home! Her stories alway made me feel connected to those days and I love that imagined kingdom (in b&w though).

  3. I have been waiting on a watch I ordered a long while. Knew it would be a test of patience. That’s all fine and good but I broke down and bought myself a little something in the meantime.... HS

  8. Actually yesterday, and you can probably guess why I did not post this yesterday. Third of four tastings done in Los Olivos.

  9. The little Lie-Nielsen and honing guide finally made it out of UPS purgatory and were delivered. The block plane is dramatically less substantial than the Stanley version. Feels much better in use and things do not seem to just magically loosen up in use like the Stanley Sweetheart.

  11. "Artist owned", makes you feel good, but a buyer with lots of money showed up, so... Gotta go.

  12. Adapter boards that I layed out and were in one of the GBs. I think you could just plug them into a 14 pin socket with no lead bending, but if I recall correctly, one of the JFETs would be backwards. No big deal on the Toshibas, at least according to John Curl. I presume the Linear Systems would be OK as well.

  13. Matching P channel and N channel is very challenging even you have a large supply of both. Agree with Pars that it's not really required for this application. If you already use dip socket for the THAT340 you can simply plug in the SK170/SJ74 into the dip socket with some leg bending. There should be some photos showing how this is done in the Balanced Dynahi build thread. found the photo so I'll show it here...

  14. I am going to flip the router table tonight so I can screw on the Dust Right box tomorrow when I get some screws. Not sure I can fit anything else in my shop at this point.

  15. I've never heard any LS50, but I've never loved any of the KEF's I've owned. Ric, sounds like you're in my camp if they're still sitting in a box.

  16. I am glad to have received positive impressions on the es1a from chinsettawong and spritzer, Really appreciate that🤩 es1a is an alternative to totl electrostatics like the 007 mk1 and 009 for people who dislike their darkness/brightness, or owners of them who want to try something new. The es1a is brilliant in some aspects, and so do the 007 mk1 and 009. I particularly enjoy the wide soundstage, naturalness and airy, transparent highs of es1a. I hope that es1a will be refreshing to the community, since the 007 mk1 and 009 have been out for like a decade or two already. Es1a inherits some key elements from the original omega -- its neutralness , big soundstage ,and sense of spaciousness. But its true to say that they are two different creatures. I actually hear more people saying es1a sounds like an 009s than saying es1a sounds like an omega lmao. But the reason I kept the omega appearance is more from a cosmetic and marketing prespective, and perhaps it fills the little void in my heart that I used to not own an omega in my collection. So as the light headband clamping force it contributes to the non-fatigue listening experience of es1a and mimics what it is on omega but its not too friendly if you want to move around wearing it.

  17. This just about puts the nail in the coffin of MQA as something worth paying attention to far as I am concerned. http://archimago.blogspot.com/2017/09/mqa-core-vs-hi-res-blind-test-part-ii.html

  18. To make it even worse it somehow gave me carpal tunnel syndrome and ever since putting it together my left wrist is fucking shot. Can’t even pick anything up with my left hand since.
