Do we have the technology to remotely poison Putin's dick? That way the next time he has it up Trumps ass, we can kill two birds with one stone.5 points

Before things get even worse, enjoy a free, fundraising rebroadcast concert tonight of the great Ukrainian band DakhaBrakha. They’re so good. https://www.sfjazz.org/watch/ (with donation links) or4 points

To build Dynahi, I need to match the Transistors, so I made a Hfe & Vbe tester. I made up it as a chimera of several online information about Tr measurement device. I posted that schematic to DIYAudio since it worked well in LTSpice, expecting somebody can review it. However later I found that I need to take two protection Diodes out to make it work in reality. Also the constant voltage circuit taking DUT in the OPamp's feedback loop wasn't as perfect as simulation. LT1078 was the most accurate OPamp I had, and achieved 0 error at Ic: 85mA mode, but it left 60mV error to the 4.00V reference VRe with low current. OPA2134 was perfect at low current, but generated more than 100mV error at 85mA of Ic. Eventually I used old uA4558TC that maintained average error 10mV to 4V reference over the range from 1mA to 85mA of Ic. Against all effort of parts selection, I ended up manually adjusting VRe to 4.000V on my power supply for each single Tr/FET. I could find good matched quad for A1358/C3421 and other Tr, but had difficulty for J109/K389. Then I bought matched J74/K170 on eBay, but one pair wasn't matched as I wrote in HC before. Finally I could find good matched pair of them from extra 10 pcs. of purchase in Yahoo auction in Japan. Reliable seller's J74/K170 even non-matched weren't cheap though. Now I'm ready to populate them to PCB? Before doing so, I need to prepare heatsinks to fix A1358/C3421. And the heatsink requires threaded holes to be mounted to the housing. The positioning of the holes requires fixing all aluminum plates on the chassis.3 points

A fascinating and (as best as my smooth brain can ascertain) unbiased look at Russia's failures in Ukraine.2 points

Just watched Winter of Fire (Netflix) about the Euromaidan protests. Man, if you haven't seen, or fully informed, and want a short cut to how hard Ukrainians will fight for a more free life and European alignment, check it out. https://deadline.com/2022/02/ukraine-russian-invasion-winter-on-fire-director-evgeny-afineevsky-inrterview-news-1234961181/2 points

I keep thinking of the often repeated phrase failure of imagination to predict the 9/11 attacks. Failure of imagination to predict the Trump and Brexit votes. Failure of imagination to predict and prepare for a global pandemic. Failure of imagination to predict the storming of the US Capitol. Even failure of the imagination that Putin would actually invade Ukraine. We’re an optimistic people. That may be an issue.2 points

I'm unsure we have the technology to stop his hypersonic missiles or even to reply to them. The only thing that could stop him is the own russian people, and they're being misinformed and repressed. Meanwhile BJ delights us with his clever insight of matters that are well beyond his reach. Now he feels very European1 point

Awwwww. I’m sorry. But I’m sure that gato got to a home that worked. I am hoping to avoid that sort of scenario. Silver is just… difficult, and I am the only currently moving creature she seems to like. I fortunately do have different rooms that I can use to segregate them, including two rooms cats aren’t typically allowed into (I use two of my bedrooms for storage: I would consolidate into one). The first time I went to Heather’s house one of her cats got around me and got into the basement, where the Bingie Cats were located at the time. I used a beanbag chair and my foot (I was wearing sandals and that hurt!) to prevent things from getting worse than they were. I do think Silver would like another pal, though.1 point

Yeah - I was quite emotional. And she organized it while she was in Australia - from https://www.bluecross.org.uk/oxfordshire-burford-rehoming-centre . She couldn't have chosen a better cat. He's super affectionate and after two days is now exploring the house She has a motto in her bedroom "A home without a cat is just a house". In Australia she has three cats , and a dog. Two are indoor cats, and the outdoor one is a murder specialist. Possums are found on their decking minus heads. They have no idea where the heads go (probably best not to ask). He once tackled a goanna (these grow up to 6 feet long); the lizard won and resulted in a big vet's bill to repair the cat. That hasn't discouraged him, clearly.1 point

We’re launching a new company – Eksonic – along with our new amplifier called Aeras. Launching an audio company is something I’ve had in the back of my head for many years and I’m proud to be able to bring a passion to market. I've been building my own version of the DIY T2 for quite some time now and have long hoped to capture the spirit of the beast in a smaller single chassis design that's more accessible to many. We think we've accomplished that with the Aeras. Aeras is the result of endless hours of circuit design and analysis, brainstorming and many iterations of prototyping and testing. Our initial users have had great things to say about this new amp. We’re going to be launching the company formally at the NYC CanJam later this month. We’ll bring our DIY T2 along with the Aeras so people can hear them side by side. I hope to see some of you at the launch1 point

They evidently hired someone from Festool to design the power controller mount as well. “Please mount screws in a location inaccessible with human hands, built within a steel enclosure so no light can ever reach the screws and then be sure in the instructions to have them install this right after they install the wings; as it would be way too easy to put this on before the wing install”1 point

Unfortunately I do not have an apprentice to help so I am going to be working with balance, brute force and luck. I am thinking 3 days minimum, not including hospital time after trying to lift the thing onto the stand. The local dealer WSI Machinery seems to be great. Mostly giant industrial stuff but a full retail store with SawStop, Festool, SCM and a few brands I did not recognize.1 point

Found it in stock 5 miles from my house at a big Felder/SawStop dealer that I thought was mostly a heavy equipment kind of place.1 point

I think the Festool Vac is the best thing they make. No idea about Hilti, are you talking about their construction wet/dry vacs? I am selling the little sawstop tonight and picking up a PCS tomorrow. Going to sling up some kind of ceiling harness that I can use to Mission Impossible around the garage to use the different pieces of equipment.1 point

Today I went to check out a new project that I'll be heading up in the Oakland Hills. The house is owned by a former client that I dearly love. While there I got to talking to her tenant who was in the process of moving out. He offered me several pieces of mahogany, left over from a project. Then he asked if I'd be interested in an old Stanley router. Not sure how old, but it's old, and all metal. While I was looking that over, he brought me the first powered drill, patented in 1917. Super awesome stuff! Pics to follow. My plan is to offer them up to the new woodshop, as decoration, even though I believe they both work. He wouldn't take any money. He just wanted them to be appreciated. They will!1 point

Looks like the issue with the SawStop was more than just power. Getting the same alert periodically and going through tests for SS. They are sending a new brake as that is evidently the brains of the whole system and I am trying to loosen and blow out a circuit board that is mounted somewhere that needs Festool hands to reach and the Anti-Brent head to even get in there and see.0 points

I’m losing hope for the current Ukraine government pretty quickly. They need a win in the field, any win, and they need it bad. To date all the Ukraine defense forces seem to have done is slow down some of the Russian advances. None have been reversed or permanently halted. Pictures of ordinary citizens taking up arms and making Molotovs in defense of the fatherland is not something that gives me much confidence. No allied army is coming to help. Sanctions aren’t ending this war. Ask Cuba/North Korea/Iran how much sanctions deterred them from doing what they were going to do anyways. Yes, their people suffer, but since when have authoritarian rulers cared about the people’s welfare as a top priority? I wonder what the end game of all this is going to be?0 points
