RIP Choco Taco(s) https://thetakeout.com/choco-taco-discontinued-1849327038 https://www.npr.org/2022/07/26/1113692240/choco-taco-discontinued-ice-cream https://www.washingtonpost.com/food/2022/07/26/choco-tacos-klondike-discontinued/ https://www.washingtonpost.com/food/2022/07/26/choco-taco-appreciation-nostalgia/ The Choco Taco saved me in my hour of need, when, while undergoing a grueling wait outside the temple of encased meats, the now defunct Hot Dougs, some kindly gents took pity on us, and provided sustenance for us, in the form of the aforementioned Choco Taco(s). They were well received. Choco Taco, We Salute You! You will be missed.8 points

One of the lesser known routines by the late, great Bill Hicks is his homage to Charlie Hodge. The Hodge routine appears on at least one Hicks CD, and in numerous live recordings shared via mp3 on the internets in the last ~25 years. Bill Hicks has always been a cult figure, and his fans were early to adopt to the ways of p2p to share his material. In the early days of YouTube a bunch of his stuff got uploaded there fairly quickly. As YT works, a lot of that stuff is now gone because of copyright claims by parties that have no right to Bill's work. Over 11 years ago I wrote a couple comments on a video of Bill doing an extended, unhinged, absolutely brilliant version of the Charlie Hodge bit. Then years after I returned to the video and commented on it again. I know all this because the uploader just "hearted" my comments and I got email notifications for each one. I rewatched it tonight. This performance is legendary. NSWF obviously, as it contains Bill Hicks. The complete realm of sanity and reason, indeed.3 points

Have an incredible day Sir. I'm not quite sure exactly what the cuisine is like there, but wishing you great paella and tapas for dinner! And may all your patients be well today.1 point

Ok played with the Niche Zero. Pretty amazing so far. Does it really need a calibration or can I just use it out of the box? So what setting should I try first for the aeropress - will do my best to get the thing right side up1 point

mono has a multitude of advantages over stereo, both in terms of economics and practicality: mono is more "pure" than stereo. for sessions recorded on tape full width mono had better signal to noise ratio than half track stereo. you have more control over speaker placement, you get no cross talk, you can buy better sounding mono components for the same money as the stereo equivalents, your interconnect and speaker cable costs are halved as is the cable clutter almost all recordings before about 1958 are mono anyway, you can store twice as much music on your harddisk/ssd as stereo, stereo recordings often had mono mixes - because at the introduction of stereo many studios where unsure of if stereo would be popular due to its higher cost, and of course, had much more experience recording with mono. Many of the mono mixes are better regarded and more sought after than the stereo mixes from the same sessions. e.g. the Beatles... (https://www.chicagotribune.com/opinion/editorials/ct-beatles-mono-mixes-lennon-edit-20141003-story.html) do you critically listen and prefer music in 7.1 surround sound? no why because its artificial, complex and detracts from the music, its a gimmick.. then why listen in stereo,? Apply Occam's razor reduce to the simplest form use the original and best form... mono... mono ©️ the way it was meant to be played ... 🙂1 point

I find it funny when speaker manufacturers advertise their speakers as "$XXX per speaker". Who buys one speaker, V. van Gogh? 🤣1 point

^ Same here, except I gave up and never finished season 2. May try season 4 but probably not.1 point

Thanks for letting me know. They lost me back in season 2, yet I still kept watching all the way to the end of season 3. I too am cautiously pessimistic, yet will probably give season 4 a chance. It got too pretentious for me, and that's saying something.1 point

Round 2 with the V60 was an improvement. In case it is of any use to others: 203 F water temp target; warm the ceramic V60 first; filter goes in and wet it to remove any tastes; 15:1 ratio on Ethiopian light/medium roast (pic included if things go to plan...); ground with Niche on the coarser side but a finer than my Chemex which uses a thicker filter (I went even finer this time which i believe slowed the process); 4:00 minutes total from first water to dampen the 30gr of coffee (60gr of water) and then grabbed the Hario w/ cup and swirled it per Hoffman method up to ~30 seconds...CO2 released IMO; added water up to 230-250gr by roughly 1:15-1:30min...swirled the slurry per above/Hoffman once some liquid cleared; added remaining water up to 450gr and used a small spoon to swirl one direction and then the other although this time I flipped the spoon around and agitated the coffee bed directly like I do with my Chemex at ~4:00 done and cleared the V60 from my cup and tasted. Overall, a much better cup for me than my first attempt but I would argue it still seems less forward/full of flavor...cleaner or something than the Chemex which has me scratching my head given the finer filter and same ratio of water to coffee...interesting. Only delta is 4:30 with the Chemex, I'm assuming given heavier filter more than offsetting the finer grind for the Hario. I'll play with it again next weekend... HS1 point

CAFEC light roasts are much slower than standard Hario filters. The CAFEC Abacas are similar to Hario in drawdown. 10 minutes is totally normal for a fairly fine grind in the CAFEC light. They are designed to do it; it’s a hybrid method of brewing in the simplest way possible. I don’t “get” the CAFEC light roast filters, in that I never quite know what to expect, but I really like the results.1 point

This is not a "music making" video per se, although has valuable hints about harmonic progressions, substitutions, melody making... IMHO can be of interest for you as it was for me.1 point

Tony Dow, known for his role as Wally Cleaver on "Leave It to Beaver," is under hospice care in his "last hours," his son tells Fox News Digital. "This is a difficult time," Christopher Dow said. "Yes, he is still alive, but in his last hours; under hospice care." Earlier Tuesday, Dow's management team said that the actor had died in a Facebook post, but the social media post has since been taken down. Dow's wife, Lauren Shulkind, gave the "false information" to his management team, his son explained to Fox News Digital. Per TMZ, Dow's wife is "very distraught" and "believed her husband was dead." She then told Dow's management team. Yikes.0 points

RIP Wally. 😢 Damn I loved that show growing up. Tony Dow and Jerry Mathers were both going to appear at a local ComiCon that my brother was promoting for 2020. The event finally took place this month but Tony Dow was too ill to appear. https://www.google.com/amp/s/www.nytimes.com/2022/07/26/arts/television/tony-dow-dead.amp.html0 points
