Please accept my apologies for any lowering of the signal to noise ratio in advance but my sincere and profound thanks (as a philistine of all things electronic) to people like Birgir, Kevin, Justin and the rest of you that have influenced (directly and indirectly) the creation of masterpieces such as the one below and the influence they have on the lives of us mere mortal lovers of music. This is the culmination of a dream of over 15 years in the making: Special thanks to Birgir for his efforts and support to this community at large3 points

Giants have lost 8 in a row to them so I can't really say much more than the Dodgers still suck even if they are good!1 point

Audiobooks are books that are read to you. So yes, they do count as "books", but don't count as "reading". 😜1 point

^^ That group was my first "alternative music" like. I was a big Pink Floyd fan, and they (and Teardrop Explodes) were written up in Rolling Stone as being part of the new Psychedelic-influenced sound in the UK. I got each band's first album in 1980 and was a fan big time. Got to see them live, then Ian M. solo after Pete de Freitas passed away and they had broken up. Unique and wonderful voice....great band all around. Funny story: when I saw them, it was at a club called The Channel in Boston. I had a college friend (also named Todd) who got so drunk at the show we had to help him outside, he could barely walk. The 4 of us went around the side so he could puke in private....and out walks the band to their bus! We got to chat briefly, and said how much we liked them and the show. Will Sergeant chuckled a bit and said something like "I think you're friend didn't really like us...." 😄1 point

You’ll need some kind of +/-15V power supply, GRLV being an option. There are left and right versions of the GRHV board, one with the bias supply and the other with the 7815/7915 LV supply. The sellers from China cut the corner and only produce the GRHV board with the bias supply. You’ll end up receiving two of those, and still need the LV supply.1 point

if you want an all tube amplifier with no output capacitors or inductors then get someone reputable to build you a megatron. large voltage swings, and thd < .02%. absolutely flat 20 to 20khz. Bonus points for the all tube power supply. large and heavy to be sure. when you talk to people ask for frequency response and thd #.1 point

the lta unit is something different entirely. and has 1% distortion and switching noise due to the square wave oscillator, diodes and high frequency transformer. The eddie current electra is a center tapped inductor with capacitors on the output. No distortion specs ever published. The original woo audio wes is a pair of inductors with capacitors on the output. No distortion specs ever published. The malvalve has an output transformer and in electrostatic mode the headphones are run off the transformer primary. The new es8 finally has a center tapped inductor and output capacitors. Low power output tubes. The palatauf is highly similar to the es8 with lundahl center tapped inductors ($100 each) and output capacitors. None of these amps have enough voltage gain to have enough feedback to reduce the distortion to reasonable levels. None of these amplifiers have inductors or transformers specifically designed to drive electrostatic headphones which result in various phase and frequency response issues. if i knew of a company that would be willing to correctly wind me some transformers i might be willing to make an amp like this. Even if i wanted to wind my own transformers, availability of the cores i want and the rest of the parts are impossible to find. And there would be 1 more tube gain stage. re: birgir's baked goods. seriously you people have no idea.1 point

So here in Austria, we don't use our brains at all and life is so much better? Yeah, I don't buy that.... It's been the same shit for the last 20 years I've been active in this hobby, Single Power, RSA, Woo Audio and all those other crap amps, the fanboys when faced with actual circuit analysis, it's fingers in the ears and this stuff sounds amazing!! Shut UP!! What I don't get is that you like the crap amp, fine, that's your problem. I'm not trying to sell you anything but because your bad tastes validate some crap design, that suddenly makes it good? So the KGSSHV, which is a monitor amp - designed to be as neutral as is possible, sounds flat and lifeless... might that just be the source? Just throwing that out there... Also, this has the be the lamest attempt to try a Carbon I've ever read...1 point

I tend to use Amperex for the T2 but also like the Jan Phillips 6922 for a change of pace.1 point

Here are some distortion figures and harmonic analysis up to 50Khz. Test setup groove tubes el34 matched, electro harmonix gold pin 6922 matched, 1Khz sine from a 192K 24bit rme soundcard spdif out to a v90 dac to the mini t2 inputs, measured on a keithley 2015thd. distortion graph is the average of 20 measurements. All other readings are not averaged: Distortion is less than 0.02% up to 500V rms output with second harmonic being the highest and a little bit of third above the noise floor. At just under 500V the 4th harmonic is above the noise floor, above 500V rms clipping starts and at 600V rms distorion is ~2.5% with the second harmonic at -36db relative to the 1khz signal level. On the right hand top side of each graph under the measurement section is the measurements for the 2nd harmonic in db and mVolts average, min and max over 20 measurements. Noise is the ac voltage not in a harminic bin (i.e. a bin which is an integer multiple of 1Khz). Analysis is with 749 bins going from 20hz to 50khz. A full fft with all bins is included for the 100Vrms output only at the bottom of the post. I wrote the software myself, its very much a rapid prototype kludgy mess but I hope to make it available to community members with keithley 2015 when the code is not so offensive. At the moment there is no guarantee that it will not open up a dimensional hole and make all your original NOS Japanese transistors disappear. FFT analysis 1Khz 100Vrms output. 20hz to 50khz1 point

I am planing to use Toshiba TTC004B instead of KSC2690A. Cob is lower than KSC2690A (12PF - 19PF) and better hfe linearity.... and I prefer Toshiba rather than KSC/KSA .1 point
