First attempt at a complete front panel. Single flute 6mm end mill and 0.1mm V bit used. Depth of cut 0.02mm on the engraving. I also used tape and CA glue as the hold down method for the first time - I really like it. Much less vibration and far quieter when cutting in the middle of the work piece compared to just clamping the corners. As usual no deburring or finishing pass. The surface finish on the volume pot pocket is silky smooth - the photo does not do it justice. Very happy with the results. Not so happy that I have zero artistic talent for cool looking front panel designs.... Another go at a Stax socket with the better quality end mills. Much better surface finish than my previous attempt cheapo mills and I'm using faster feeds and speeds this time. Just shows that a crap end mill gives inferior results even on soft plastics. There are no burs around the edges of the cuts and the surface is smooth.5 points

Continuing the list and following Kris above - Sammi Smith's Help Me Make It Through The Night. 'Help Me Make It Through the Night is a masterpiece of country soul that perfectly bridges outlaw sensibility with lush Nashville studio sounds. It has ballads like “There He Goes” and “Lonely Street” that match the intimacy of Dusty in Memphis and wounded delivery of Tammy Wynette, thanks to Smith’s powerful, husky alto. There are even bright flashes of popular music from the era, like the sitar effect in “With Pen in Hand” or the supremely funky drums in “This Room for Rent” and “But You Know I Love You.” But its defining moment will always be Smith’s recording of the Kris Kristofferson-penned title cut, which won Smith a Grammy. Hundreds of cover versions exist now, but no one has ever been able to match the smoldering desire in her performance. —J.F.' Ex.3 points

Ran a bit around this weekend, started up in our condo in Maine then ended up visiting both my mom and dad (long divorced) today for their birthdays. Mom's was last week but there was a nasty thunderstorm so she actually told us to reschedule. Loved seeing both of them and other family, and ate like a pig at a brunch for my dad; but this time the best moment came at a Flea Market near our Maine condo, where I saw an awesome Killer Klown bong....too bad it was so pricey (close to $250). The seller and I had a blast talking about the "good ol' days" of smoking.3 points

So as the disclaimer states*, this is pretty much a greatest Nashville list, which is a little strange to call a definitive Country list. Still use it for what it is. Occasionally, you even glimpse in more modern lines. Okay, Steve Earle and Jason Isbell are in. Whiskeytown/Adams and Tupelo/Wilco are out (Not a direct response to Nashville?). Anyway, geographic lines leads to inclusions like the big, beautiful Bobbie Gentry's Ode to Billie Joe. Ex. What a great A/B 45 release... * "What you won’t find much of is alt-country, country rock, and Americana, as we tried to keep this list focused on music produced by the Nashville system (or in direct response to it) and marketed to the country audience. That means no Uncle Tupelo or Eagles, though Lucinda Williams and Gillian Welch make appearances for sterling work that exists comfortably in both worlds. Maybe we’ll get to that country-rock list another time."2 points

This thread has been entirely too dormant. Got invited over to a friends for BBQ, couldn't go for various reasons. Decided to solve the problem myself. Unpictured, rack of ribs, pictured, 4lb pork butt. Cooked it to 180 internal before wrapping to try to get more bark/flavor and decided to try beer instead of apple juice this time in the wrap because, well, I was drinking.2 points

I used to be (regularly got the flu during flu season, &c.), but in my case, I knew exactly what it was -- I took too many antibiotics as a child and adolescent (and post adolescent...), so now the flora is all but gone in my digestive tract. I now take probiotics every day first thing when I wake up on an empty stomach with ~1L of water*, so that they go as far down my digestive tract to the lower intestines as possible. I also take zinc every day (the most important ingredient in Cold-eeze). Neither one of these fight viruses and germs by themselves, but both help boost the body's natural immune system. I hardly get sick any more. I had those two scares a couple weeks back, but honestly those were the first in years. Also: sleep, water, exercise, sunlight, eating right. I don't do any of these things perfectly, but I have been getting better at most of them. Much better in the case of sleep -- I have conquered my self-caused sleep issues, and now wake up pretty much every day between 6:30 and 7 without an alarm clock. It's great: I can concentrate, remember stuff... I highly recommend taking better care of yourself as you get older. *Wegmans flavoured sparkling waters -- I did double check with my doctor, they are equivalent to water, including 0mg Sodium2 points

Apparently she doesn't "force it", so won't destroy her voice by doing what she does. Kinda impressive, even if the end result is not necessarily my thing:1 point

Wallflowers Jinjer 2021 https://album.link/i/1569867454 Example: I really appreciate her enunciation while screaming with the contrast to her strong singing voice. Keeps me very engaged.1 point

I was a bit of an experimenter in college....having done bongs or water pipes with various alcohols in the past, I tried some additional things my junior year. In the end, my water pipe was filled most of one semester with Nyquil believe it or not. Might explain why I am the way I am now 😄 And a few FB funnies I saw recently....1 point

Looks awesome to me. I mean you could add a logo of some kind if you come up with some artwork? I’m not 100% clear on where the required blue LED goes.1 point

Brandy Clark’s 12 Stories ex. ‘Her stories are about women who cheat, who are cheated upon, and who divorce husbands they’ve outgrown, and her songs are full of punchlines that delight and devastate. One working-class narrator makes certain to “pray to Jesus” for help but also makes sure to “play the lotto.” And seemingly “crazy women,” she explains, “are made by crazy men” — it’s the sharpest misogyny explainer since Kitty Wells schooled men on who made honky-tonk angels. Throughout, Clark’s secret weapon is her singing, which comes off easy and game for fun then soars heartbreakingly high and lonesome like a blue-collar Emmylou Harris. —D.C.’1 point

The so-called 'active battery' is a shunt regulator IMHO. I would recommend that you simulate any circuit changes for performance (shunt impedance) and stability. The original circuit does not seem to have enough phase margin and can use some compensation. My calculation shows either adding a 1.2pf cap across the two 820k feedback resistors, or increasing the shunt capacitance to 0.1uF would help. They each have their pros and cons. The calculated capacitance is so small that parasitics can throw the circuit in either way and make it 'touchy'. Using 2.2nF compensation cap would significantly increase the loop gain in the mid- to high-audio frequency range and reduce the output impedance as you have observed, but also make the stability worse. Since the active battery is part of the signal chain, I would rather shoot for flat impedance across the audio range and as small phase shift (group delay) as possible. I'm not sure what your test gig looks like. It would be important to test it with a source impedance similar to the real circuit. My sim tells me that the original circuit when properly compensated can be pretty flat within 20KHz and has -3dB point over 200KHz. On the other hand, the LT1021 due to its high-ish operating current requirement, does not necessarily bring much gain to the overall performance of the active battery compared to the LED strings.1 point

I have no idea what a bong is. I was never exposed to such hooliganism. But if you did buy it and want to relive the glory days, I hear that filling it with Peppermint Schnapps cools the throat, and may have been a popular thing to do in the 70's. Obviously that would just be speculation on my part.1 point

Helloooo Belvedere! Kickin' off with a local youth jazz band And now Super Diamond has the natives on their feet We're pic-nic-ing (stage right) in the shade of Redwoods To avoid the "Mosh Pit" (Those flailing Rolex's could give you quite a slap) Along with the Neil Diamond covers there have been fragments of AC/DC, Led Zep, Rush and A-Ha in a musical medley, and now Sweet Caroline finishing in the style of G'N'R (Sweet child o' mine)1 point

Joined the aesthetes of Ross to see "Eos Ensemble: Pastorale in the Redwoods Bask in the dappled light of our rustic Redwood Amphitheater to the sounds of a string trio joined by flute and harp in this program of chamber music with renowned local musicians." A very pleasant way to spend a summer evening1 point

The Sandman (Netflix) - just finished episode 11. The series was not what I expected (I have no connection to the comic). Enjoyed it all quite a bit.1 point

If you're having issues with a 4 amp fuse at 240VAC you may have something wrong. Make sure it is a slow blow fuse. They start with a T in front of the of the value (i.e. T2A @ 250V).1 point

I did sous vide picanha for the first time today. A simple rub of spices, smoked salt and olive oil, then cooked in the bath at 133F for 6 hours. The 'grill' part comes from very briefly finishing on the pellet grill, just one minutes a side, with the flame box open and the temp at the absolute highest I could get it, about 700F! Served with fresh chimichurri, I was in meat heaven.1 point

RIP to an old friend of mine. We'd known each other since somewhere between 4 and 6 years old. Not really close anymore, but he was a fire dective (or something) when Kristen's mom burned down their house. We had Kristen's step-dad's ashes (Emma, the kids' aunt's father) inside and I was able to catch up with him and get him to go in and retrieve them. They were in a bag inside a cardboard box. He was able to save those before the fire reignited and would have taken the ashes (and some other things we got out with Matt's help.) His mom was my 2nd grade teacher back when my dad was principal. I heard a lot of chatter about the two who passed away, but woke up this morning to a message from my mom who let me know it was Matt. He's at least the 2nd or 3rd from that friend group who's died in the past few years (the other being my best friend growing up.) He left behind a wife and I believe two young kids. As someone who lost his dad when he was 10 (and my dad was just a couple years older than Matt and I were/are now), this one was sad. https://newschannel9.com/news/local/communities-mourn-loss-of-thp-trooper-marion-county-commissioner-in-helicopter-crash RIP Matt Blansett.0 points
