So I've ordered most of the parts for my build, and they're trickling in. I orderd two of the F5 Fairchild version parts kits. Two of these mammoth heatsinks... All the connectors, switches, IEC, fuseholder and an Alps pot (going to try adding the attenuator, as my build will be mainly a headphone amp for my K1000). Antech toroid, 4 huge frickin' caps, and a chunk of copper for a cool point to point power supply luvdunhill is working up... A sheet of 3/16" aluminum for the bottom and back plates (the front will be wood), and some perforated aluminum for the top plate. Plus most of the other incidentals. Looking forward to getting started.

There are a few of us building this amp, and at least two of us that have taken this on as a first project, so I'm thinking a thread is in order, since I'm sure that there will be some discussion and questions.

Gotta agree with Nate here on the over-generalizing. Plant me firmly in the dual chassis crowd on certain applications.

Nope, I'm totally cool with whatever timeframe it takes. The only downside is all the money I keep spending to update the look. The latest being stunning looking volume knobs from Justin.

Hmmm, really glad to hear you like them so much. And I'm very glad to hear how they sound with the Beta22. Once my Beta22 revisions are done I'm sure that will be my main amp for the K1000.

So Mike did you sell your other Tannoys then? I gotta say the retro look of those cabinets is making me moist. Those are hot! I'd buy them on looks alone, the fact that they sound so good makes it almost too good to be true. Many times I've thought about building a retro looking audio console cabinet, and making it fit todays gear. You may have just rekindled that idea.

I really liked the YH-1000. It has locks so that once you determine the right size you can lock them in place. And the YH-1000 sounds really, really good. I wish I could find a pair again. The YH-100 sounds like poop to me in stock form. But once modded they kick serious tail! I did not try modding the original frame however. I just went straight for the woody cups. So I'm not possitive how they'll respond to damping them correctly in the stock housing, but my gut reaction is probably very well.

Well obviously I was kidding, but it is cost effective. I've never been much of a drinker, but I did bring myself to taste it once out of curiousity, and it was pretty repulsive stuff.
