  1. Even if you can zero the offset, I want to see where the batteries end up. I'm guessing in some of the builds they are quite lower than they should be.
  2. That's very useful to know, thanks! Do you think the absolute values of the PSU helped or do you have another theory?
  3. I'm playing around with an optimization to the circuit and was wondering if I could post a survey question. All the measurements I'm asking for are available via the test points, so it should be easy voltage to ground from each of the battery test points voltage to ground from each of the outputs to ground I remember seeing a few of the folks not be able to get the output to ground measurement to zero, which impacts the maximum swing on the amplifier. For example, Inu's build. I think I might see the problem here (a small problem, granted 50V here isn't a huge deal, but for us that are perfectionists...), which is due to the fixed base biasing method of the darlington servo pair. Thus the hfe of the transistors might very likely have been hand-selected by Stax with a certain beta that has been lost to posterity. Also, the fact that the original was a furnace would have an impact on this aspect of the circuit. For extra credit, I'd love at least one person who can zero things out to measure voltage across R73 (6.2K) and R64 (510R) for one channel (I can send beer as a thank you!)
  4. Anyone know of a website that given a departure airport searches in the future to find cheapest flights? I need to also restrict airline, etc. I tried a few but all I found had annoying glitches, like not being comprehensive or not having all the results on the same page for easy comparison..
  5. The later. The former is a perfect way to describe how I feel
  6. Please lock thread. I dread seeing this on my recent activity list.
  7. I bought a Tom Bihn ID bag for exactly the same purpose. Has a shoulder strap and also has a second strap and holds the bag real secur e.
  8. If it's not tied to the original case, I would try to get more of the device case on the flange. IMHO the old design there is a 1/8" or so of the case off the edge.
  9. Interested but would want to see curve trace, etc. comparison of the parts.
  10. Um that's a gross misunderstanding of .. you know stuff.
  11. Wow, keep in touch...
  12. Looks like red-red-black-red-brown = 22K 1%. Ok. Still interested in other question though...
  13. Kevin/Birgir: do you have a pic to confirm this? Sure it's not the 62K resistor? I suppose either could work, just curious. Also any chance you know the voltage across R73 in the original? It's the 6.2K resistor at the base of the Darlington in the servo...
  14. I use track pad for PCB. I also use snap to grid and when needed manually enter coordinates so never need crazy precision with it.
  15. Read the Borbely "Frontier" articles.
  16. Sorry that was vague. The tobacco is pipe tobacco. I have nevertheless tried that. I am not sure that moisture content of tinned tobacco can be maintained by a 70% humidor? I guess we will see but currently it's still really dry. I pulled some out and put it in a zip lock with a wetted paper towel and after a day it was decent. I squeezed a tiny bit of water into the mix and rolled it around and then left it in open air an it smoked really well...
  17. I think all of them I have heard can be described that way. Perhaps better isn't the right word then, I would say more extension and detail for the KGSS and smooth and rolled-off for the BH.
  18. I think the BH does exceptionally better in the low end. I feel like the upper end is nicer with the KGSS though.
  19. Cool. I have some aged stuff but haven't figured best way to get it back up to moisture content. Seems to age better dried I think. Tonite a VSG
  20. Can you comment on the amplifier topology? Ya know the thing that actually makes the tube work and dictates how it works?
  21. What makes the chicken smart? I mean it is dead afterall...
  22. You tell them Ari!
  23. If there is any snow in MI when I get back I will be pissed. I left for 5 weeks hoping it would all melt, after all.
  24. I think I am getting to the same point. I can have two shots of espresso and go right to bed. After this cigar it took me a good 3 hours to finally sleep. They are petty good. I really like a number of the smaller cigars and I find that the higher wrapper to fill ratio is nice, though I mentioned this to some asshole cigar douche in London who tried to argue that this wasn't a factor at all. I find I also like my cigars a bit dryer that might be achievable in this climate as towards the end (especially the larger diameter) get all soggy and soft. The dryer seems to impart a certain spiciness I like.
