  1. The hinged seat idea might work although it would make the space below far less usable for shoes, etc. I might opt for scrapping the existing vestigial bench altogether, sad as that may be. They could bring it back flush with the cabinets and either leave it walnut or else paint to match. Either way, I would make a couple of little bench stools that you can slide in and out as needed. They could be simple three sided inverted U shapes that are a little shorter and shallower than the cabinets and you can still stow shoes under them. Or just make two smaller stool cubes with a cutout hand hold that sit on either end. You could also leave the walnut the way it is and make stools of some sort, although I don't love the look. Oh, and bonus vocabulary and creative writing points for an excellent use of "vestigial."
  2. Forgot you were in Jerusalem now, Tyler. Stay safe or take your family and get out of there if the state department offers it. Best of luck!
  3. Another cheesey buldak.
  4. Cuban Chinese restaurants are pretty common but I haven’t seen this variation. Sounds tasty
  5. I don’t want to start a political discussion here but DiFi had an incredible career as a public servant. There’s room for debate on whether keeping her in office this long was appropriate but she did it as another service to her state and country. The republicans claimed they would not follow senate protocol and would refuse to allow her appointed replacement to take over her committee assignments etc. They held her hostage in my opinion and I’ll be curious to see how it plays out after she died in office. /end rant RIP Senator Feinstein, you deserve the rest.
  6. You’ll shoot your eye out! Have a good one Wayne! Cheers!
  7. Saw that too. Very sad. RIP Steve
  8. The recipe says to remove the skin and suggests doing it in water or stock that gets strained and used in cooking. I was confused at first, but I think it's meant to be removed and tossed.
  9. I think Alexsander will appreciate it. 😆
  10. When I read this recipe, I thought of you and your chile verde and enchilada habits and how it would meld them. I'm going to try it with chicken but pork would work too... https://www.seriouseats.com/the-best-chicken-enchiladas-recipe?hid=afbcd5ec2924e6f4f4e9ae4ec9315e2afffcdd9a&did=10340377-20230923&utm_source=seriouseats&utm_medium=email&utm_campaign=serious-eats_newsletter&utm_content=092323&lctg=afbcd5ec2924e6f4f4e9ae4ec9315e2afffcdd9a
  11. Happy cocktailing today and many more, Jim! Cheers!
  12. Kingfish is playing next Friday at 2:30pm at Hardly Strictly Bluegrass...
  13. I just listened to the album and her vocals are so much better than live. She sounds more relaxed and confident and clear on the album. Much of the time last night, she had an exaggerated style where she clipped/faded both beginnings and endings of words so much that it was distracting. I heard one woman from the audience talking about it on the way out of the hall, and she said it was like Cavassa didn't pronounce any consonants. Hard to explain but it was pretty accurate. I don't always love jazz vocals but this album has some great takes on an interesting selection of great pieces.
  14. First time back at SF Jazz since the pandemic tonight and it was too see the Joshua Redman quartet with Gabrielle Cavassa performing songs from his first Blue Note release. They played all but two of the tracks (New England and New Orleans), and he called an audible and added a non album version of Hotel California. I love the band but I don't love her singing style all of the time. Very affected and jazzy stylized. I love the Count Basie / Sufjan Steven's mash-up in Chicago. I haven't listened to the album yet but certainly will soon.
  15. That's some real nice slapping! What goes in the thin drawers?
  16. You're quite the ontapanure!
  17. Have a great one Stretch! Cheers!
  18. No bananas?
  19. Hadn't seen that news either. RIP Dream Weaver
  20. Fuck, this series of events is too bizarre to imagine. I hope the trailer survives but your mom's safety is the only really important thing.
  21. Have a great one! Cheers!
  22. RIP Jimmy and sorry for your loss Brent.
  23. For reasons nobody can explain, we have had a box in our garage in San Francisco since 2019 that contains a JBL Link Bar and subwoofer. Either one of Alden's friends or somebody we know left it here and then denied knowledge of it when we investigated. In any event, I finally opened it and then checked it out a little online. It is a sound bar based on Android TV that can turn a dumb TV into a smart one, plus it has Google Assistant built in somehow, and it is a stand-alone smart speaker for streaming music. Has anyone here ever used or owned one? I don't have a use for it but I might offer it a niece or nephew if it is a decent product. It seems from reviews that it is a bit too complicated to be useful for the tech-averse, but I have not tried using it myself so I am curious if anyone has experience or info about it. Thanks
  24. Huge congrat again Nate! Thanks for making the effort every year.
