R.I.P. Alex Chilton
Alex Chilton died yesterday at age 59 from an apparent heart attack. That's fucked up. I've been meaning to post this sad news ever since my wife called to tell me she heard it on the radio while she was driving to work. Great and influential musician. Also been meaning to play some Big Star and shit but I have been too busy to do anything fun today. Will have to toast him later, but for now here are the lyrics to The Replacements' Alex Chilton: If he was from Venus, would he feed us with a spoon? If he was from Mars, wouldn't that be cool? Standing right on campus, would he stamp us in a file? Hangin' down in Memphis all the while. Children by the million sing for Alex Chilton when he comes 'round They sing "I'm in love. What's that song? I'm in love with that song." Cerebral rape and pillage in a village of his choice. Invisible man who can sing in a visible voice. Feeling like a hundred bucks, exchanging good lucks face to face. Checkin' his stash by the trash at St. Mark's place. Children by the million sing for Alex Chilton when he comes 'round They sing "I'm in love. What's that song? I'm in love with that song." I never travel far without a little Big Star Runnin' 'round the house, Mickey Mouse and the Tarot cards. Falling asleep with a flop-pop video on. If he was from Venus, would he meet us on the moon? If he died in Memphis, then that'd be cool, babe Children by the million sing for Alex Chilton when he comes 'round They sing "I'm in love. What's that song? I'm in love with that song." I'm in love. What's that song? I'm in love with that song. I'm in love. What's that song? I'm in love with that song. http://www.dailymotion.com/video/x1wwko_the-replacements-alex-chilton_music No, he didn't die in Memphis, but NOLA ain't a bad place to go out.

Congrats on the 808.2i, that is one sweet CDP and I bet the DAC will be damn fine for other digital inputs.

NKOTB - TTVJ/Millett 307A Headphone Amp
It redundantizes the Doshi except for the phono section. If only I could get any real money for the SDS-XLR and if only I didn't have two incoming top-notch electrostatic amps and . . .

Come on, it's only 73,695 Rand. Go for it Stretch! You can borrow some of my dynamic phones for the duration.

NKOTB - TTVJ/Millett 307A Headphone Amp
I wish Todd had run it by some people before announcing, but the name of the amp doesn't really matter to me. This thing is going to be intense.

What did you do today?
Sorry Dinny, but the Lyme's will go away. I'm sure Jack is fine, but they can take care of him too if he has it. I hate ticks, but our dog gets them more than us.

Review of 404LE - can't really find it
?? I don't know what your assumptions are, but I don't think the 4070s are inferior to the O2s. My order of ranking is SR-Omega > 4070 > O2. People don't like the 4070s for various reasons, such as weight, closed backs, too bright, etc, but the reality is not that many people have even heard them, and even fewer have heard them side by side by side with the two Omegas on an amp good enough to drive them all well.

Review of 404LE - can't really find it
I have 4070s and I guess I would say they are somewhat similar to the SR-Omega in that they are more lively, forward and punchy than the O2. The closed nature of the 4070 makes them pretty much different from anything else in the Stax line but they share some SR-Omega traits.

That's a good one, Ricey. Your boy Jake S is back in town and playing on a weekend when I already have tickets to see Keith Jarrett and the ballet. Gonna miss him again. He'll be back, tho.
