He must have posted his comments while I still had my post open. Didn't see his initial impressions until just now.

But which one of the 5 little holes do you plug them into? Team Arky Sparky to the max! I think Mike may have bought one, but JP just borrowed one. I think the GS-1 came in last place in some listening tests he just conducted. He said he would post up findings soon.
-
Yeah, why so coy?!

I agree he is diluting himself with too many releases, but that said I still like most of them. The recent Alhambra Love Songs is about my Bay Area and this new one is at least not a Masada iteration. I am listening now and I like it. First evar, you image thief?! Wow, that is something. I have always had a TT of some form, including the console number my parents had when I was growing up. I have both of the vinyls you have spun today, and they are both quite nice.

Beautiful work Ben. That is all very impressive.

Congrats Mike and Stretch! You should both enjoy those purchases immensely. As for me: FOTM13 Pro!

You could have just read that in Grahame's post above.

If you had a $1,000, or so, to spend and K-701 headphones

How about "fuck off"? Are those bad words in Danish, at least when used together in that fashion? -
Agreed. From AudiologyOnline (who knew?): "Most of the major custom IEM manufacturers make the following recommendations for taking IEM impressions, some of which may differ from typical hearing aid impressions. First, use a 2” bite block to keep the patient’s mouth open while the impression material sets. This is because jaw movement slightly alters the shape of the ear canal. With IEMs, you need to maintain a good seal when your jaw moves into a wide-open position while singing or speaking. Next, it is also beneficial to have the impressions taken as deeply as comfort allows, preferably to the second bend in the ear canal. This increases the hearing protection of the IEM by adding mass between the external stage volume and the eardrum. It also minimizes the occlusion effect by reducing the air volume between the IEM tip and the eardrum."

I have SAA hardwired K1000s and hassled with the silver tip wires for a couple years. I didn't use them much because they couldn't be used on regular headphone amps, I have speakers on my speaker amp, and it is a pain to reconnect. I had my friend thrice re-terminate with a 4-pin XLR and I have a variety of connectors for use on non-4-pin amps, including the original silver tips, 2x3-pin XLR and 1/4" jack. It is awesome and I have listened more in the last couple months than the prior couple of years. Also, as a SinglePower Survivor, I feel your pain. But you are being more than irrational by saying you don't want tubes. To my mind/ears, both the K1K and HD800 need some life and perhaps even some warmth and tubes is where they will be happiest. Buy a Balancing Act and you will be happy and secure for years to come. The WA22 is another balanced option I would consider, and if you are not interested in balanced drive, or don't have a balanced source, then the WA5 is a pure no-brainer and the ZDT would give you all the options you think you want.

Or a variation to show Dinny's change of affiliation, a la the Calvin stickers:

Simple question. Does your Black Dragon cable have a wire going to each side or just one side? If Drew wired them for you, then I am quite sure he wires them direct to each driver, unlike the stock K701 where the cable is connected on one side only and then there is an idiotically small wire on the inside of the cans going to the other driver. -
Agreed. Fine man, long amazing life. RIP without regret.
-
Thanks guys. I am quite relieved.

Very cool find, but I need moar munchkin tubes! This Yamamoto one looks cool with the "doorknob style" 316As
-
Yep, I saw them side by side myself and you can see things on the MRI that your really cannot see on the x-ray. The x-ray was the next morning and the MRI was three days later, so the MRI shows the indication of the fracture as a small line either white when it should be dark or vice-versa. Anyway, the doc looked me over and scrutinized the scans and confirmed a fractured fibular head. No ligament damage, no surgery, no cast, and no physical therapy other than eventual stretching and such. Pretty relieved but I have 6-8 weeks of little to no exercise. Wait, now I have an excuse to do what I already do!
-
Oh, that's easy. Your Colorado laws don't frighten me. No running or jumping needed. Just mad law skilz. I gots 'em.
-
Will do, as soon as I can run and jump again.
-
Maybe yours are aired out or something, but I had some headphones in those cases and they came out smelling like petro-chemicals. I have to figure out whether the smell goes away before putting any cans back into them.
-
Heard back from the ortho guy that MRI (unlike the x-rays) showed I have a fractured fibula but no torn ligaments. He still doesn't seem to believe it because now he tells me he was convinced I had a torn ACL from his examination last week. Going back this morning for further exam with MRI results in hand. If it is just the fibula, then no cast is required, but I cannot run or jump or otherwise stress it for 6 weeks or so. Could be worse.

It could be just alphabetical ordering, but it is funny that Head-Case is listed before Head-Fi in the Audez'e website links!
-
Would somebody please design me an amp or something with lots of 316A and 703A tubes on it? That would be Munchkin-land kind of cool.

Why would you hire such a fuckup then? The Warthog looks very tidy and milspecy.
