October 7, 201312 yr You've been having sciatic pain? Ouch! Hope you get it sorted out Chris. I've only had it once or twice (briefly), and I can't imagine having it for an extended period.
October 7, 201312 yr Not serious pain just a moderate shooting pain down my right leg (and sometimes left) that comes on about an hour into a ride unless I have my chamois positioned just right. I just stop and futz around with it a bit and it improves to a dull burning sensation along the outside of my thigh and calf. Not willing to stop riding over it.
October 9, 201312 yr It's All About The Bike - Pt. 2 This is badass... even being able to do this at all (and in its shortened version this year because of the Fed. shutdown) is remarkable to me. http://forums.thepaceline.net/showthread.php?t=137573 Edited October 9, 201312 yr by Pars
October 10, 201312 yr And had my first commuting "accident" tonight. Soon after I left work, I pulled into a turn lane and had to wait for oncoming cars. I thought I had unclipped when the wait was longer than I expected, but apparently not. "Oh shit" moment unraveled. Fell over, and scraped up my elbow on the asphalt. Glad I didn't do a collarbone. The balance of the ride home was fine once I got the bike readjusted a bit, and am riding in again tomorrow.
October 10, 201312 yr glad you made it relatively unscathed. I bought my 16 yr old son a bike today. A 2009 KHS Flite 500 aluminum and carbon road bike. A craigslist score, it was just $200. Not a perfect bike by any means, but a screaming deal at $200. So now we're up to 3 road bikes. Looking forward to this weekend's ride.
October 10, 201312 yr Author Ouch, Chris. Definitely glad it wasn't worse. Dan, cool that your kids are getting into it. Watson has his vet appt. early Saturday, and we start puppy training class right after so I'm not going to be able to get out my bike until Sunday. Glad I got the puppy, but rides longer than a couple hours are going to be out for a few weeks.
October 10, 201312 yr Jens Voigt is doing a charity ride on 10/19 in Baltimore. Anyone interested? http://savealimbride.org/Uploads/Public/mobile/SALR-mobile/SALR.html I love Jens! Edit: I'm thinking metric myself but could do the 30 if that's the consensus. Edited October 10, 201312 yr by Dreadhead
October 10, 201312 yr I'm up for it, but the 2,400 ft of total climbing on the 30mi course might be a bit much for me
October 10, 201312 yr Went to the LBS to have a frayed FD cable replaced. Also had my chain checked and it's pretty stretched. Ordered a gold KMC chain from Amazon to replace it. I got around 2k miles of rain, dust and sand and infrequent cleanings so I really can't complain. Turns out my Roubaix with pedals, cages and Garmin mount weighs 16.31 lbs. Not a weight weenie bike by any means but I was expecting to be more in the 17 lb. range so I'm actually pleasantly surprised.
October 11, 201312 yr Finally caved and got this. Been wanting one since I had a test ride and finally found one used. Open O-1.0 - Guys from Cervelo and BMC
October 11, 201312 yr The new seatpost for my Brompton came. It is much longer. Yaay! How long are those?
October 12, 201312 yr Is that just for looks or is a better quality chain than the normal options? Of course it is better, it is gold. Should have gone for a white chain.
October 12, 201312 yr The Titanium Nitride coating is supposed to help reduce friction but.... yeah. Bling.
October 12, 201312 yr I just wanted a little ghetto on my bike. Didn't even know the Ti coating is supposed to reduce friction.
October 12, 201312 yr Mission accomplished then. Did you keep the factory lube or clean it off? (I would keep it if you're using a mineral based lube but I dunno which would be better when using a polymer based lube)
October 12, 201312 yr Left the factory lube on it. My cassette is filthy so I'm gonna have to lube it with some rock n roll soon.
