RIP George Wendt. AKA Beer-Loving Norm from Cheers. Died at 77.

“Wendt showed up as Norm over the years on St. Elsewhere, Wings, The Simpsons, Family Guy, Frasier and The Tortellis and as himself on Seinfeld and The Larry Sanders Show.

He also had recurring roles on The Naked Truth and Sabrina the Teenage Witch and guest-starred on other series like Alice, Soap, Hart to Hart, Becker, Hot in Cleveland, Columbo, Harry’s Law, Fresh Off the Boat and The Goldbergs.“

That’s pretty impressive. Also in Hairspray on Broadway.

Had quite a shock today. My Sister in law sent me a pic of my Mom on the day of her death. This is a picture of her Christmas before last...

This was her the day she died...

Just 1 1/2 years later. I was shocked!

RIP Rick Derringer, best known for that one song we all can recall instantly.

Credit to Bill Szymczyk, the producer, who turned that shit up to "11" in the studio, making it such an earworm.  If you doubt me, check out the Edgar Winter version of the same song which is ...fine, but a pale imitation of the later Derringer only version.

Also, while we're on the subject,

Absolutely gratuitous 70s video of their hit from 10 years earlier.

EDIT: I should add that Rick produced the first SIX albums by Weird Al, a fact which by itself should elevate him to legendary status.

That is heartbreaking!

WTH is wrong with some people...

Sam

I can only hope the murderer is put in prison and made someone's - or better yet SEVERAL someones' - ass bitch!  Scum deserves it deeply....  A dog, too.....

RIP Jim Marshall, 87, the first of the Minnesota Vikings four defensive linemen known as the "Purple People Eaters" to pass away. Always thought it was a crime that he was never elected into the NFL Hall of Fame. Grew up as an avid Vikings fan in the 70s. By all accounts, he was a good man otherwise as well. Time sure flies.

RIP Sly Stone.

The word “genius” is often overused, but this guy was a true musical prodigy… at least until he cooked his brain with all the drugs he was taking.

His life and the life of his band were lovingly covered in a two-parter from one of my favorite podcasts.

Godspeed, Sly....

A true innovator and one that did it with class IMHO.

And I'll add Paul McCartney's favorite.

When I found out Melissa was pregnant, the first album I thought of introducing to future Esmé was Pet Sounds

RIP Brian....even though I didn't listen to a ton of Beach Boys music, the massive respect and recognition is there for their - and especially HIS - greatness.

Also RIP to Douglas McCarthy of Nitzer Ebb.  Their music was in good rotation in years past....  Only 58 too, likely related to liver issues.....
