I thought they may have brought the revenue of energy produced to present value, accounted price reduction of solar cells with scale and maybe receive some public funds since there is no tar to absorb solar rays and increase heat island effect. June 3, 201412 yr comment_638782 solar panels seem like they're a long time away from being optimally efficient, and roads get a lot of wear and tear. The concept is good, but I don't think it's ready. Maybe a solar roof over the highways instead. Report
June 3, 201412 yr comment_638788 The main problem being that glass alone costs a whole lot more than asphalt and on top of that just regular wear and tear from cars will wreck the efficiency of the panels (assuming they don't completely die). There's simply a lot of other places you can place solar panels which would be much more appropriate than the road. Report

While not directly related to tesla or the vaporware road-tiles, at all, my local school district has covered pretty much all of their parking lots with awnings made of solar panels. It looks quite nice, no doubt shades the cars a bit in the summer, and obviously eats some sunlight. Report
