I'm two episodes into Beforeigners season 1

The initial idea seems great, but the development isn't as good as the expectations it generates. It's becoming as any other detective/police/crime series. Maybe #3 introduces an interesting twist.

I'd watch John Lithgow watching paint dry. Definitely going to check this out!

I believe the first thing I saw Lithgow in was The World According to Garp, in 1982. That was an amazing performance, and he hasn't let me down once since.

Just watched the first episode (of four) of Keep Sweet: Pray and Obey (Netflix), the happy-go-lucky tale of Warren Jeffs, his mother-/sister-/underage-wives, and the Fundamentalist Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints.

[spoiler] It all goes catastrophically wrong again.

After taking a couple year break mid-second season as I thought it was feeling a little sentimental, this week I plowed through the remaining episodes of Gervais‘ After Life. The last season was nearly all wins in my book.

A couple of newer shows we are enjoying:

Dark Winds (AMC)

Hotel Portofino (PBS)

Also, ditto on The Old Man (which has already been renewed for another season).

Also, Irma Vep (HBO), series based on a 1996 film of the same name. Sorta bizarre, sorta meta. But sorta compelling to watch for some reason. Alicia Vikander is gorgeous.

Watched the pilot of HBO's The Anarchists. A bunch of American Anarchists get together in Acapulco and live happily ever after.

The Bear (Hulu/FX). I don't know how this is going to hold up, but damn, is it a strong pilot.

What the hell is a "beef deli"?

Possible untapped next food trend, but I’m guessing it’s for queue lines… beef (signature sandwich) | deli.

I thought the whole show was about a beef deli, but now that I look it's about an Italian beef sandwich shop, which is a Chicago thing.

That's what we used to call "The Stud" on Wednesday nights. That was a gay bar in San Francisco for the uninformed.

So binged The Bear last night-this morning. The whole season is pretty damn good.

Yeah, Italian beef. Dude played "Lip" on Shameless. I've been meaning to check it out.

Danny Boyle telling the story of the Sex Pistols?

I like the cast. I like the story. The music is as killer as ever.

I'm halfway through the mini-series and having a great time.

^ Good to hear after the band disagreements over it.

Nathan Fielder here. His The Rehearsal (HBO) starts off with a good, funny pilot and sets up the season nicely in episode two. Crashed my Scion TC at 100mph is what all the cool kids will be saying soon.

Just finished Season 1 of High Maintenance.  How is it that I just starting watching this.  Great!

One last friendly nudge towards The Bear

The X-Files

I was a little too young for this show when it originally aired.

I have a strong childhood memory of watching an episode (IIRC the show aired directly after The Simpsons on Sunday nights) that was so scary it gave me nightmares for weeks. It is funny to find out later that that particular episode, s4e2 "Home," with a family of mutants who keep their mother stored under the floorboards, was so outrageous that the Fox network would never re-air it.

In any case, the structure of X-Files makes it a good one to dig back through. Only about 1/4 of the episodes are "mythology arc" episodes that actually advance the overarching plot, while the remainder are "monster of the week" one-off episodes. Wikipedia has a good guide to the mytharc episodes that I've been following along with.

Between following the mytharc and interspersing the critically acclaimed monster-of-the week episodes from various folk's "top episodes" lists the show is a pretty entertaining watch.

Talk about casting the two perfect leads.

My favorite episode so far, s3e4, "Clyde Bruckman's Final Repose," was every bit as good as it was hyped to be!
