Dusty Chalk
I still like the idea of a desktop, but I guess I can address that at another time or just get a big screen. Yeah, just get a Mac Mini later, with a "real" screen. I remember when people used to laugh at my 15" screen and say that there was no point in having 1080 resolution on something so small. MexicanDragon
Dinny... why not let Pops get the 27" iMac, and you buy yourself an 11" Air? **BRENT**
shellylh
Dinny, I personally would get an 11" Air and a decent external monitor. I have a 15" mbp that never leaves my desk now that I have the Air - it is hooked up to a 20" monitor. If the laptop is hooked up to a monitor, it won't matter what size the screen is. I find that the 11" is fine for travel or sitting on the couch surfing the web. Edited December 16, 2012 by shellylh
Dusty Chalk
That's actually a good point -- laptops actually make decent desktops, once you move things to proper ergonomics -- at my previous job, that meant an external keyboard, mouse (trackball in my case, but everyone else used a mouse), and screen, and all was well. luvdunhill
You seem to always bring this debate up Dinny 13" rMBP for me. The screen is awesome.
The Monkey
Marc, I know. I'm really torn. First world problems.
luvdunhill
Please tell me you have seen both in person. No really.
The Monkey
I have not yet seen the 13" MBPr. I have seen the 15". Beautiful. But I did notice some general UI lag that I did not like at all. Especially while scrolling.
luvdunhill
I had some screen shearing with mine but it got fixed at some point with an update. You should hold the Air and the rMBP. The difference to me is minimal. Even between the 15" rMBP and 13" air, honestly. Like I said, work out more and youll get used to it. You need a trip to the Apple store my friend. shellylh
I feel like I've asked this before but.... Is there a program for Mac OS X that works like Remote on IOS (to control itunes on another networked computer)? Screen sharing drives me crazy because it is too laggy. blessingx
Edit: Actually my solution won't work in your case. Sorry, I misunderstood. Edited December 17, 2012 by blessingx

jp11801
my issues with the MBP laptops is they fry your lap. If you actually have the laptop in your lap it gets uncomfortable fast, if you never have the lap top in your actual lap and don't mind the weight then the MPB but if heat and weight are a consideration them air
crappyjones123
Netflix or any flash based things fry the air very fast as well. Temps stay in the mid 90s whenever I'm watching stuff.
luvdunhill
Its half a pound more. Thats what, 15% more? I cannot believe people that have held both in real life or better yet own both would notice. Remember at the back the thickness difference is a whopping .07". morphsci
I agree with Marc. The weight difference between the 13" air and rMBP is trivial.
shellylh
itunes can control itunes on another computer Great! How?
grawk
you can use home sharing to access the library, and then airplay to direct output on the remote system. There is also this: http://www.macupdate.com/app/mac/21518/itunes-remote-control
shellylh
Doesn't that stream the music to your computer and then back? Also, I'm not sure how to use Airplay to send it back to the other computer. Basically, I have a Mac Mini hooked up to my main headphone setup and I would like to control itunes without streaming music. I have used Airport Express in the past connected to the DAC but I didn't like the lag (when I clicked on a song and when it started playing). Screen sharing with the mini and my other computers is ok but really slow and frustrating at times. Remote on ipad is wonderful but I don't always have my ipad with me at the computer. I will look at the itunes-remote linked above but it looks a bit clunky. Marc: Is this the same method you use?
blessingx
Two others to give a try... http://code.google.com/p/tunesremote-se/ http://code.google.com/p/tunesremote-plus/ (your Android phone - I believe you have one and if closer than your iPad). morphsci
Of course not. Nobody needs more than 640K of memory.
