NEW DELHI (AP) — Ravi Shankar, the sitar virtuoso who became a hippie musical icon of the 1960s after hobnobbing with the Beatles and who introduced traditional Indian ragas to Western audiences over a 10-decade career, died Tuesday. He was 92. A statement on the musician's website said he died in San Diego, near his Southern California home. The musician's foundation issued a statement saying that he had suffered upper respiratory and heart problems and had undergone heart-valve replacement surgery last week. Indian Prime Minister Manmohan Singh also confirmed his death and called Shankar a "national treasure." Labeled "the godfather of world music" by George Ha…

This morning I was watching "Wright Brothers: First in Flight", an interesting, historical TV show. I highly recommend it if you are at all interested in flight and/or history. After their first successful flight, they walked 4 miles to telegraph the news back to Dayton, OH. I wondered why they walked. It was 1903 so I can believe that they didn't have an automobile and there probably wasn't a suitable road for one on Kitty Hawk. But why didn't they have horses or a wagon? Then I remembered that they were bicycle builders. So my question of the day is "Why didn't the Wright brothers ride bicycles to the telegraph office?

Wishing all of you a great day and a great Holiday Season! We're driving to Cleveland today to spend time with my family and do the usual, sit around a lot, eat, and watch sports and movies. Some will play mah jong. Maybe I can convince someone to go to the Hoppin' Frog brewpub with me, which is only 20 minutes from my brother's place where we stay. To those with recent loss and injury ... know that you have been in our thoughts and prayers every night this week. I hope you can find some happiness and joy in spite of the terrible luck cast your way. Hopefully the new year will be a good one.

Is it just me or do the smilie icons all look the same? Well, except for the confused, devil and afro ones. Even so, the question marks and the devil horns are really small. Sure, I can roll the cursor over them and see their labels while typing my post, but this doesn't work when reading a thread.

Clearly everyone in this forum shares a passion for quality audio reproduction. Regardless of location, financial situation, age, gender, or any other differences we may have, we are united in this passion. My question for all of you is: How and when did you first realize that you wanted more from your audio system? And what did you do about it? I'll start with my story. When I was 15 years old (I think) I asked for a pair of noise canceling headphones for Christmas. I received them from my cousins, a pair of $50 Targus noise cancelling headphones. I loved them! In retrospect they were crap, but I was ecstatic about them. I used them for a while, and then one d…

After fours day of sitting around and 33 hours on the same plane I am finally home. Phew. Hopefully I will be able to get some sleep soon. The big shock came when I got home. I am pretty much at a loss for words and don't think I can express my gratitude to you guys enough. Tyrion, Grawk, Zippy2001, and everyone else that helped out, thank you. Wish I could thank you all individually and catch the one responsible (I have my suspicions;D) I look forward to catching up on all the happenings around here once I get over my jet lag. Again, thank you.

I believe this was a thread started in 2006 or 2007 (on Head-Case with the old forum software). And I'm pretty sure 909 started it- it was asking about potentiometer replacements for a Moth amp. There were a a lot of suggestions in that thread, which then went off topic with marijuana jokes. Does anyone remember this thread? I've used every possible search string I could think of and I still can't find it. Admins- any way of checking if it was deleted by accident? edit: I suppose the real thing I wanted out of that thread was where I could buy an ALPS RK40 from. I think someone posted a link to a German seller that had them.

http://news.slashdot.org/story/12/07/12/2215231/diggcom-sold-to-betaworks-for-500000 "The once popular social news website Digg.com which received $45 million in funding, is being sold to to Betaworks for $500,000. From the article: 'Betaworks is acquiring the Digg brand, website, and technology, but not its employees. Digg will be folded into News.me, Betaworks' social news aggregator. This is not the outcome people expected for Digg. In 2008, Google was reportedly set to buy it for $200 million."

I noticed that you can cuss and say just about anything you want in this forum. But I posted a tread a few weeks ago requesting some dating advise and it quickly got locked. Not sure why it got locked, but this site is surely taking a dive and I think it is because the interesting treads are being locked. Are we limited to only talking about really boring stuff here?
