Since using Windows 7 ... about two years now, I've been mostly happy (I've been on the same original install since Jan of 2011, when I built my current 2700K music/gaming machine and things are clicking along fine thus far). But one process I've always wanted to streamline was the switching among various audio devices (since Windows 7, and I think that trash heap that was Vista, introduced a more granular approach to audio channel management, which, in the long run is a good thing but it also brings with it some tedium). Typically, one must right click the default Windows 7 speaker icon in the task bar, then select "playback devices" and then select whatever pl…

http://usat.ly/1cInyhN Bummed - he wasn't the greatest actor, but he had heart. I'll miss him. "Paul Walker, one of the main stars of the popular Fast and Furious action-movie franchise, was killed on Saturday in a car accident in Santa Clarita, Calif. The actor's representative, Ame Van Iden, confirmed his death to USA TODAY. He was 40. Walker had returned home for the holidays from the Atlanta set of Fast and Furious 7 and was scheduled to return next week. The California native appeared in all but one of the Fast and Furious movies, starring as Brian O'Conner opposite Vin Diesel. Other movie credits include Varsity Blues, Eight Below, Takers and the upcoming…

After reading through threads, I'm afraid to ask a question. Or state an opinion. Or look at anyone in the eyes. So just, hi. Also, I like music and beer and shotguns and stuff.

Are there any "tapers" around here? I played in bands for years, also have been in to recording/production of other bands over the years. But still, I find nothing to be nearly as fun as stealthing in to some bar/club otherwise "venue" ... with permission or not (Noah and the Whale's tour manager recently kicked me out of a show) and taping/recording the performance with the only requirement to make it sound like it sounded when I heard it/saw/listened to it. And then publishing it. I write as a trade; I also have made original music as a trade and so intellectual property shit is not an issue; I buy. A hacker tag from my early 80's BBS days comes to mind her…

Hi guys, I've seen plenty of pretty headphone stands out there, but could never convince myself to pay over $50 for the ones I really liked. Well, that changed today as I came across these. Very simple, clean, elegant design. As much as I love the wooden ones, most of my gear is black or silver, and given that my furniture has followed that pattern, I wanted something to match. I just thought that I'd let you guys know about these in case anyone, just like me, still lays them down on a towel when taking off the cans. http://usa.just-mobile.com/mac/headstand.html?JmSwitchCountry=US#.UoKm5_mkots I've found the black one for $45 here: http://www.daydeal…

So, in July 2011 my father-in-law passed away, and we inherited his 12 year old cat, Greystone. Greystone was frightened by the ambulance and the police and ran off that day, and it took 3 weeks for my brother-in-law to lure him back into the house. My wife's siblings were unable to keep the cat, so we agreed to take him. When we picked him up he was in poor health, with a mouth full of rotten teeth and he was malnourished and all skin and bone, weighing about 7 lbs. We took him to the vet whom we've used for 6 years with our other pets, and Greystone had to have all of his remaining teeth pulled. We nursed him back to health but he couldn't gain weight. He had norm…

I got the Airmotiv 4 today and they sound great. They are also so small! However, I have a safety concern that I wanted to ask about. First, they are not grounded but have a metal plate in back. This concerns me - seems dangerous. I know there is a lot of electronic equipment that is not grounded but I would guess that having the metal in back and using high voltage (I assume it is high voltage) would require a ground. It uses a 3 prong cord but there is no connection to the ground. Here is a picture of the IEC inlet. Second (and this is the weird thing), the manual clearly says the following. Why would they say that if the ground was connected to …

This one will go down in the record books definitely. It is most certainly the most intense tropical cyclone in terms of wind speed EVER recorded due to its estimated 200 MPH SUSTAINED winds. It made landfall in the central portion of the Philippines as it was intensifying to this horrific intensity. That makes this a shoe in for the most intense landfalling tropical cyclone in recorded history. The storm surge because of this and due to topography will be unreal. There have been a few cyclones in the Pacific resembling Haiyan before, but I do no think anything has made landfall ever like this. The news will be horrific, unfortunately.
