Hey- My good friend icculus514 just joined up recently. He is pretty new to the world of audiophilia but he loves it and is learning quickly. We've seen phish a shit ton together and have had lots of very long and very disturbing conversations in cars at night. He's reading over at HF a lot and trying to learn the ropes, and I'm doing my best to help him sift through the tomfoolery. He's heard lots of stories about this place (which is really hard to describe to someone with no context) and doesn't want to come off like an asshat and end up dead in a basement. However he has met reksy (back in fall 09) and survived unscathed so I think it's cool. He hasn't posted…

Only one more year to go before the half century. May all your diaphragms be the right tension and make beautiful music when under electrostatic pressure. :frantic:

Not a political endorsement or argument by me in any manner, just pointing out something interesting. I've just read through an great essay by my favorite author, David Foster Wallace. He's a post-modern type who's written lots of short stories, non-fiction, and one totally over the top novel called Infinite Jest. His main skill is bogging his literature down with meaningless details only to hit you with simple but seemingly revalatory facts (probably only revalatory based on the general mediocrity of what came before.) Despite that, I still love reading anything he writes. Guess I like the pain . So in 2000, Rolling Stone contacted him to join a media tour for a ca…

For the first time in about 8 years I played football (or soccer to most of you) with some collegues at work. It didn't go very well, after about 15 minutes I got a complete achilles tendon rupture in the right foot. I wasn't even playing very hard, just kicked the ball away from the goal. And I was sooo looking forward to play football again. Untill the operation on Wednesday I shall do as little as possible, just keep my foot high. It will take some 8 - 10 weeks with easy going and crutches to get well. The good thing is that it will be completly healed, but I'm afraid I will be bored long before that happens. Luckily I got a lot of unread books. And my sister w…

I don't really want to do this, but wifey asked if I could post the link to a plea page she has up for our stupid cat. We found out he has a growth in his ear that's probably a tumor of some sort and the vet wants between $3800 and $4500 to fix it. So on top of losing my job we now have this.. so anyway, don't feel in the least bit obliged or anything, I'm posting because she asked me to. Marc is 76 years old today, but doesn't look a day over 45. That could have something to do with his head always shrouded in pipe smoke. I've been inches away, but never had a clear view. Or possibly it's his career that keeps him looking younger. He's a towel boy at a posh country club, and the constant steam must be the answer ( I realize that some of you think he's involved with software, but that's just his cover story ). Maryanne sent me a pic of the cake she baked, just beautiful! Have the best day ever Marc ( if that is indeed your real name )!

Yep, another Head-Fi escapee here - just wanted to get my first post out of the way. To be honest, I have no particular motivation for signing on other than the recommendation of another Head-Fier who agrees with some of my cynicism on said forums, particularly in relation to some of the 'paid adverstisements' that masquerade as reviews. Nuff said.
