Grok Headphones in Fullness

  1. Started by Syous,

Yuck, its like the soundstage collapsed or something...I much prefer the bowls in all aspects (don't hurt me please). Anyways, I'm really quite impressed with the RS1s after running the whole gamut of commonly recommended headphones on HF. Weird thing is, I use to own a pair of SR225s and they became extremely uncomfortable after 30 minutes, but the RS1s I can wear for any length of time without my ears throbbing. I'd say they're more comfortable than my pair of HD580s because of less clamping force and possibly due to the weight differential. The comfort factor is certainly contrary to my expectations and a pleasant one at that. This is the first time I've felt mo…

  2. Hi Everyone. There is one FS right now and I wondered how much one was worth. The seller said that he paid a premium for his and I didn't know how much one in that type of condition is worth? I'm looking to purchase it, but he didn't list a price. I'm interested in these since it seems that a lot of people like them. I do love my L3000s . Here is the link to his sale http://www.head-fi.org/forums/showthread.php?t=265122. Thanks for your help Here are some pics that he posted:

What do you think? Should I jump on the HE90 without ever auditioning it (a chance which I'll never get anyways)? I'm a huge fan of the HD 650, favourite headphones probably, warts and all, and also liked the O2 very much when I heard them decently amped. Somebody offered the HE90 to me at a fair price with the Stax adapter. The seller also offered me a KGSS DX tuned for the HE90 as an optional buy, any thoughts on that? Just please talk me into or out of it. Thanks and sweet forum by the way.

I have the K701s and i'd read on this forum that there are some with 2 foam pad layers and some with one. I was wondering if there might be any way to tell which one I have without tinkering, using the serial number or something (I don't want to tinker for fear of irreversible damage)

  5. I have recently been playing with the new sennheiser HD25 Aluminium 25th Anniversary edition Trimmed I have, since listening to them, pulled them apart to see what other changes they have made. The headband and cable are pretty much the same as the HD25-1 mk II but they have silver text on the headband and flatter hinged in aluminium to match the earcups. The cable clamp is now held in place with black t6 screws rather than silver philips screws which makes them a little trickier to pull apart as you can not longer use a standard screwdriver. Inside, the drivers seem to be identical and have the same impedance but have a different holographic seal on them. T…

  7. So I am extremely fond of the HD25-1. They isolate as well as many IEM's, they sound OK, they're lightweight and can be ;iterally thrown in a bag with impunity. However for someone who has had more headphones and you can count on every appendage, I am getting 'samey-headphone-syndrome'. I want a change. The K181DJ is looking like the only competitor around at the moment that I haven't heard or had. I have just cancelled my order for a K181DJ as the supplier is being an arse. They told me it would arrive this week,, and this is after many, many weeks of waiting. A web seller have them in stock apparently and can dispatch next day. I am about to buy them, but if I buy…

Yeah, me neither, never heard of them. Then some distributor in New Jersey contacts me and says I should hear them. "They're like the Beats Solo HD but better!" Yeah right. Using those headphones as a reference sure gets me excited ... not. Then they show up. Look a LOT like Solos. Sound and measure like pure gold though, baby! Woot! This is a seriously good headphone. They're available here at Amazon for $99.

Hi, this sounds like a knowledge community sharing the same interest thats why I decided to come here, this my first hello to you. Going to the point I bough first and MS1, and to me doesn't sound near to what I would call decent hi.fi so I decided to go with the RS1 and the same happened. There was an improvement but not much. But this is straight from a 20$ Creative Stone Plus Mp3 Player and laptop. I ordered a minimax and gamma 2 when bought the rs1, the amp arrived but waiting for the dac to use it. The rs1 at least with crappy source doesn't make for me it just sounds 2 cheap speakers (sorry grado fans) . So I'm preparing my self for the eventuality of th…

The Stax Omega 2's are headphones I've been interested in for a long time, and lately I've been getting the urge to buy a pair. Thanks to pricejapan a new pair would only cost about $1500 which is far cheaper they are from US Stax dealers. A few things are holding me back from pulling the trigger: 1) I'm perfectly happy with my current L3000 based rig, at most an O2 rig would be complimentary 2) The reported lack of bass impact compared to dynamic phones has always been a concern. I'd like to hear peoples opinions on the O2's and any comparisons to your favorite dynamic phones would be very helpful.

Ugh.. I have sent them 5 unanswered emails, as well as called three times. All I want is a pair of K271 velour pads, and the foam inserts from a K240. Can anyone advise me here?

I will ask this here... Where is the best place to purchase these. Best price with warranty or just the best price. Are these so reliable that you need not concern yourself with the warranty? As an alternative I am thinking about the "Stax srm-t1w stax tube amp/headphones" what price would be reasonable for this set? Thanks

Well hello Head-Cases. It's been quite a while since I've been in the audio scene, and this post probably belongs with much of the other unread drivel "what should I buy with $XXX" posts on another forum... but I like you guys much better. I am getting ready to go to one of the sandy places America is currently occupying, and I'm wanting to build a somewhat portable rig to take with me. My sources at home are mediocre at best (budget turntable, laptop, iPhone), and with the exception of vinyl, I am not sure what I am going to take with me. My ears have been battered to death by car stereos and some Polk Audio home speakers, so I don't need the best - just looking …

  16. Started by Colin345,

I'm looking for some good, cool looking over-ear headphones to get. I'm currently looking at these, because of how they look, they seem to be pretty good, and the cords are pretty sick: Amazon.com: V-MODA Cross-fade LP Over-Ear Headphones (Gunmetal Black): Electronics Amazon.com: V-MODA XFLPR-ROUGE Crossfade LP Over-the-Ear Headphones (Rouge): Electronics The only problem is, the reviews say that they are mostly for dance music. They're on sale, so I was wondering what opinions you had, or a comparable set for the price. I mostly listen to music like Forever the Sickest Kids, All Time Low, Disney, Nevershoutnever, The Maine, etc. Thanks.

Hello People, I'm Shane and I'm new here. I share a pair off AKG K701 headphones with my father, plus they belong to my father. And very good headphones they are!! The Headphone amp we use with the AKGs is a MF X-CAN V2. Is it true, the Heed CanAmp goes very well with the AKG K701? Regards.

Well, it seems AKG has updated some of their mid-level phones. I just bought my K271 couple of months ago, too. http://www.akg.com/site/press_center/powerslave,id,152,nodeid,0,_language,EN,nodeid,33.html

I was wondering if anyone knows anything about a new headphone .... or modded headphone called the Alessandro MS2 Magnum. A head-fi buddy mentioned this to me. The phone will cost like $200-300 more than the standard headphone and supposedly be very PS-1 like. Anyone?

Hello everyone, This is my very first post in this forum I discovered very recently, and I can see many of you already do post on head-fi. My nickname on head-fi is Shamu144 if you need any reference, though I am not a very active member there. As introduction background, I can say I have some experiences with the electrostat sound (I own a SR-303) and dynamic sound (DT880, HD650 and K501). I was very pleased with my SR-303 powered by a Manley Stingray integrated amp, through an Illusion ESC-1001 adaptater box (I see many of you use SRD7). I decided however to downgrade my system for reasons too long to explain now, and ended up with a balanced amp that proba…

Looking to make a decision on either the Phiaton ms 400's or the Sennheiser hd 518's what is better for the price? I want a pair i can take on the go and listen to at home and be impressed.

A thread for impressions on the Grado RS-60, a hybrid of SR-60 drivers and an RS-1 made after the RS-1 drivers were destroyed in an accident.

  24. It's probably no surprise to some of you that these are some of my favorite headphones (when properly damped and housed). I'd like to hear the impressions of others that have heard these unique drivers.

  25. HD650s - the Rodney Dangerfield of headphones?? When I first borrowed them earlier this year, I was underwhelmed (compared to PS-1 (sold) and L3000, etc). I bought a pair to putz around with my Lisa IIIXP and DAC1, but these phones have grown on me...to the point I'm reaching for them half the time. OK I've recabled them with RAL and defoamed them and rubbed them with barbecue sauce. If I were to cut objectively - no BS - to THE SOUND - these HD650s would hold their own, certainly be tops for 'bang-for-buck'. Running them out of my DHA3000 and LIIIXP/LLP for reference. So what's my point...nothing. maybe I could easily be happy without blowing my wad on silly expensiv…
